My daughter and I visited Il Ciliegio as part of a Globus Italian tour. This family farm is an example in self-sufficiency and sustainability while the food was delicious and service impeccable.
The farm is in its fourth generation of management with Papa and relatives waiting and serving on our 30+ person group. We began our tour with a view of their farmland, livestock, and operation, then moved to a wine tasting and dinner. The wine was so good that many asked about US distribution. Since there are no sulfites, it did not cause a typical wine headache. The food was delicious and the courses kept coming, which made many express desire to know ahead of time how much food or number of courses so they could have left room for the next course.
The fact that the farm operates on solar, treats and processes their own water, grows their own food, raises their own livestock, and manages their own operation. It was refreshing to meet papa and the whole family while enjoying their farm.
I highly recommend a tour, visit to the retail side, and dining in the restaurant. While we had plenty of time to experience the operation, I want to go back so I can take more time outside of a group schedule. My daughter and I loved it and the other tour participants raved, too.
