“Quirky and Good food”
Reviewed May 1, 2012

Merida was very disappointing, but this restaurant was a great find - thanks to reviews on Tripadvisor. Beautifully decorated with helpful and friendly staff (the owner insisted on showing us his massive leeks - luckily a Spanish couple on the next table translated for us!). The food was excellent, lots of local dishes, and very good value. A great find in a rather dismal town.

“Good atmosphere terrible food”
Reviewed November 13, 2011

Sorry whatever the comments of tripadvisor may say on this!
I had a nice garlic soup followed by probably the worst steak ever. Had to send it back 3 times cause i was still frozen and the 4th time I couldnt ate it anymore.
My wife had some asparagus with cheese and she was sick for a day!
Trust me.. Dont Go here!

“Good cooking, slow service, overbearing boss.”
Reviewed August 19, 2011

The cooking was quite good, but it was downplayed by the slowness of the service (15 min. between dishes) and it was a very simple meal.
But the attitude of the owner was insufferable, when asked with all courtesy to speed it up, the reply was astounding (if we desired faster service we ought to have gone to a fast food place; because after all, we hadn´t asked for a 9 € menu). The menu was composed of ham for starters, salads, gazpacho and steaks. I don´t think this is very elaborate lunch.

“Wow!”
Reviewed August 5, 2011

This restaurant just happened to be across the street from our hotel and we could not have been any more fortunate. First ones to arrive at 8:30 on a Friday night, but the place soon filled up. We had a bit of a language barrier...my Spanish is marginal and our waiters English non-existant! Never the less with a lot of pointing and gesturing we put together our order. Traveling with two kids and they were more than happy to split portions of salad and pasta for them. The barbecues lanb was great, the whole sea bass better. Do nit under any circumstance pass up the vino de la casa! A delicious red served chilled that was wonderful! We had to have thirds! Don't miss this one!

“pleasant experience”
Reviewed April 30, 2011

We found this restaurant by accident - on our first night in Merida. The restaurant is located in what appears to be an ancient house (looks like most of Merida is this way), on the same street and between the beautiful Roman Forum and temple.

The restaurant is very well kept, and offers great food, good service, and family atmosphere. Of particular importance to us was the fact that the owner (Mr. Juan Manuel Sanchez Gil) makes a great effort to revive the spirit of his Sephardic Jewish ancestors - both in his establishment and in the city.

Highly recommended!
