This is one of the many Roman era attractions in Mérida, the capital city of Extremadura. The town was founded by retired military from Augustus army in 25 BC. The remains of the theatre and those of the amphitheatre are side by side. A 12 euro entrance fee gets you into both as well as into a few other sites around the city. It is worth the price to wander the grounds and be immersed in what life was like 2000 years ago.
