The common spaces are OK though there isn't much atmosphere, our room was on the crappy side: small, with a small, barred window (why was it barred? we were on the 2nd floor!) and the shower leaked like a sieve. Beds were small and not very comfortable, the a/c was extremely noisy. Do your research carefully - not all paradors are the same. This one is definitely on the shabby side. Convenient to the Roman ruins but that's about the only positive thing I can say about it.

Luxury. One of the more modern style hotels we stayed in in Spain. Stopping point for guided tours having lunch. Very nice, though expensive restaurant. Convenient to bus station ( 5 euro taxi ride). Near the most complete Roman remains I have ever seen (barring the Colosseum in Rome). However the amphitheater here was more accessible than in Rome. No areas blocked off.

This Parador was the third one we stayed in during our trip to Spain. Although the location was ideal and having easy parking as a bonus, we felt the Parador was a little tired. As a previous reviewer has said there are many corridors and our room was someway from the main reception. Our room was clean and the bathroom was spacious but the air-con didn't seem to reduce the temperature too much, for at times the outside temperature was 37c.

Our snack lunch in the bar was fine and the coolest place in the hotel. We didn't eat in the hotel in the evening so we cannot comment on the food.

Probably if we were visiting Merida again we would choose a different hotel

We stayed at this Parador on our drive back from Lisbon. Although we had a little trouble negotiating the one way system to the hotel, that was our last problem. It is so convenient for all the historic sites, we just walked everywhere. Breakfast was good and the bar was friendly and served snacks. We didn't eat dinner there but the rooms were great and a thoroughly enjoyable stay at a good price. Very good value.

This is a lovely parador occupying a converted convent. We had a great, comfortable room overlooking the garden at the back of the hotel and it was incredibly quiet. Merida is a lively town and on the evening we arrived was very busy with a North African market, including stalls and camels in the the pedestrian street at the front of the hotel. It is a short walk from the hotel to the Plaza Mayor with its bars and restaurants. Also within a short walking distance are the Roman remains, including the Teatro and the Ampitheatre. Friendly and helpful hotel
reception staff. Very pleasant interior patio to enjoy a glass of wine. There is an underground garage which is worth paying for in the summer heat of Extemadura.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the garden.

This was my first experience in staying a parador and I am now hooked. Beautiful building and well located to the sights. My husband and I had a room that looked out to the garden/parking lot. It was quiet, you couldn´t hear anyone coming in or out of their rooms. The bed was huge! The bathroom was lovely though could use a bit of fresh paint (but these are tough economic times). The staff was lovely and were very helpful.

The building is located about a 10 min walk to the train station and 5 mins to some of the sights. I would certainly return to stay here and look forward to staying in other paradores in Spain.
