“Such great memories”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2012

I've been home for a month now, but I keep promising myself to review this excellent hotel.

I know everyone has wonderful things to say about Monika - I can only agree and say that I don't know how she can make so many minutes in a day - she's there at breakfast and she's there at night as well and she still found time to take a sherry with us. She has a compendious knowledge of the town and directed us to excellent restaurants, tapas bars and tabancos as well as arranging a personal tour of the Lustau Bodega (this might have been a mistake as we ended up spending 300 euros on ordering sherry and brandy!), and sending us to the best authentic flamenco show ever.

We had a superior room at the front of the hotel overlooking the square. The bathroom was a delight with its glass sink and the standard of cleanliness was the equal of any I have ever seen.

The rest of the hotel is charming and full of interesting things.

From Jerez we travelled to Cadiz. We spent some time in an "OK" hotel and saw most of the sights, but we never found the same touristic attractions as Jerez. If we had realised how cheap and easy it is to commute by rail, we would have visited Cadiz for a couple of days, but travelled back each evening to the Casa Grande. It is also a very short train journey to Puerto de Santa Maria where you can take a ferry to Cadiz.

Room Tip: Well worth the extra few euros to get one of the larger rooms at the front

We spent a few days in this lovely hotel during our stay. The rooms are small, furnished with antique furniture. Wonderful bar and a library on the first floor of the hotel where guests can spend time with friends in conversation. Breakfast is offered at quite a rich and diverse. If you have additional comments, it will help you to realize them. Monica wonderful help in solving any problems limit, if you want information about the restaurant or winery, it is always ready to help.

Room Tip: You may not like the room overlooking the courtyard.

I am astounded that Casa Grande scores so highly, I seem to be one of the few who found that it did not come up to expectations. Very pricy for what it is, an up market bed & breakfast. The head mistress is very pleasant, informative and helpful, although you are not allowed a key and have to ring for entry every time. Must be some reason I suppose. Rooms and public areas tasteful and clean, quite pleasent really. However, our double was on the small side, as was the bed with an incredibly hard mattress (par for the course in Spain?). Not such a good night's sleep. Also noise problems if you are tucked up early on as sound reverberates around the courtyard that the rooms face. Breakfast 10 Euros so gave it a miss and had coffee and toasted sandwiches with the locals in town. Good move at 6 Euros for the two of us. Liked the roof garden, nice for some relaxed sun bathing. If you are in two minds about coming to Jerez let me highly recommend the town to you, loved it. Cadiz is just down the road as well and has fabulous beaches. Happy holidays!

Despite the disappointment of the rainy week in Southern Spain, Casa Grande lives up to everything everyone else has said here. This is because, I think, it does what it does very well, not try to be something else; i.e. it is an excellent, authentic three star hotel. From advice about parking locally, to the best bodegas to visit, to the characteristics of the local restaurants, Monica offers helpful, well informed advice without ever being pushy. It feels like there is a genuine interest in the visitors and concern for their well being.

Room Tip: Don't worry about finding a good room, get a good sat nav to find the hotel in the first place...

After reading the reviews prior to our trip I was concerned that perhaps my expectations were too high. Not to worry.....this is a lovely hotel in a traditional building surrounding an open courtyard. The rooms were spacious and well furnished with windows overlooking a garden/plaza across the street. The breakfast was good as was the service and there was a very nice rooftop terrace. However what really made it special was Monika. She is very welcoming and knowledgeable and is willing to do everything she can to assist in any plans you might want to make. The location is great for walking around Jerez with street parking just around the corner. The ONLY thing I might suggest is some shade on the terrace. Even in October it could get very warm up there.

This hotel is an easy 10-minute walk from the train and bus station. It overlooks a very pretty plaza. The hotel surrounds a pretty first-floor courtyard and features a very nice roof. The rooms are clean and tastefully decorated. The staff is pleasant and helpful. We looked at the breakfast and decided against it; at 10 euro it seems overpriced. However, we very much enjoyed our stay at this lovely, tranquil hotel.

We were there for a special occasion that was thoughtfully recognized by the hotel, and would recommend it to others celebrating.

We had a week in a junior suite here (bedroom, bathroom and sitting room) and it was as good as anywhere we have stayed in Spain. The facilities were all we wanted. The hotel was a lovely traditional building around an open courtyard with a great roof terrace. Multilingual Monika and her staff lived up to all the pre-publicity and could not have been more helpful or friendly. The restaurants they recommended were very good and they were really good at checking train timetables for a day trip to Cadiz and bus timetables for Sanlucar to go on the nature reserve trip. Nothing was too much trouble - even chatting to a garrulous elderly Englishman. It is not the cheapest hotel in town but you get what you pay for and we got great value. Highly recommended.
