This was an interesting visit and it is well worth paying the extra to have the headphone tour. At the time of our visit it was very quite which gave a very peaceful atmosphere.

The Moorish Alcazar is largely in ruins but an extensive reconstruction programme is under way. Once within its walls, the city disappears and you find yourself in an oasis with small but beautiful gardens and mature fruit trees. A perfect balance for the other many attractions of the city.

Wasn't sure what to expect when we got here. But the Alcazar really has everything. A lovely Moorish fortress.Atmospheric, charming and beautiful. The gardens were delightful. I could have spent all day just smelling the exotic blooms. But then there is the old mosque, turrets and walls to explore. Fascinating. A must if you find yourself in Jerez.

Jerez without the Alcazar? No way! This is part of the must visits in Jerez (equestrian school, bodega, and this). It is simple, costs almost nothing, and we spent almost 2 hours inside. Just wander around, sit down for 10 minutes, then strool trhough the gardens to the next point, and repeat the action (or absence...). This place makes you dream of ancient times, when the Moors were still in power, and afterwards, when the rather uncivilised Christian knights and kings recaptured the place and - than God for that - left at least some of the wonderful creations of their enemies. The mill, the mosque and the baths are the best parts. Take your time and enjoy

A charming former Moorish fortress located within the old quarter of Jerez. Underground car parking situated right by (Alameda Vieja) which is safe and handy for exploring the area.
