No feedback on the camera obscura as it was closed when I visited, which was a let down, but the grounds definitely weren't. Lovely gardens, beautiful Mosque, authentic arabic baths, amazing views from atop the towers and a fascinating old pharmacy on the second floor of the main building where ancient potions are stored on display...go up and take a look, you'll never have seen anything like it.

Jerez is a town full of cellars and you can’t make a mistake if you visit Emilio Lustau Bodegas which were founded in 1896 and produce sherry that has been awarded many times and its quality is excellent. We came for our guided tour at noon, it was organized just for our family and after warm greetings Isabel Ortegón, a kind Spanish lady whose English was very good, showed us around and explained in a detail how sherry is produced. Then we were offered very nice lunch and wine testing and they let us to enjoy their hospitality in quiet and piece. We could also try a lovely sherry from 1989. Although we didn’t drink much- we were there with children and by car, we really enjoyed that afternoon. We bought some wine home and we are just sorry that it is not imported to the Czech republic any more.

The Alcazar is quite nice, but a lot like many of theAlcazar in many Spainish cities. (We visited a lot of them.) It is not nearly as grand or interesting as Alhambra, Granada or Seville, but well worth a visit. However, the Camera Obscura is wonderful I had heard of such a thing, of course, but never seen one. (There are only a few in the world.) When you get to the Alcazar sign up for the Camera demonstration .(You may have to wait for one in your language.) It is possible to see entire outside city (360degrees) reflected on the large disk thanks the camera. The demonstration is interesting and entertaining.I count it as a highlight of my trip through souther Spain.

Lovely gardens. Not very busy when we were there so were able to see everything.

The camera obscura, which is an optional part of the vist, is worth the extra cost.

The Alcazar of Jerez is a wonderful place to stroll. We loved the gardens and the smaller size of the space makes it easy to dream about actually living in such a beautiful place. As to Jerez de la Frontera, we love the city. It is very easy to walk almost everywhere and in particular the vegetable and fish market was amazing! The Real Escuela Andaluza horse show was fantastic as well. We have had great food, very friendly people (even if the Spanish they speak is very difficult for us to understand....it is very, very, very fast!!) Jerez is a beautiful city to visit and not nearly as busy as Seville.....Carole
