After an hour at the horse show can you go at Sandeman to taste and to see the history of real winery here in Jerez.
A wonderful garden make the entrance to the winery and to history.

“A tipsy tour of the Sandeman bodega!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2014

I remember Sandeman really well as a big brand in the UK in the 60's and 70's, but you don't see it around much any more, so it was fascinating to take a tour of this lovely old bodega. We went as a family of five adults - fortunately my son doesn't like sherry, so he got the job as designated driver for the day - just as well, as we were distinctly merry having sampled three big glasses of sherry!

The museum tour was excellent and really good value - I think it was around 8 euros each including the tasting - and we learned a lot from the lovely Spanish tour guide dressed in the Sandeman trademark hat and cape. Seeing the old TV and cinema ads brought back memories, and it was interesting to discover that the business had it's roots in London in 1790.

We learned about the different varieties of grape that produce drier or sweeter sherries, and finished in a large cantina area where we sampled three of the sherries accompanied by crisps and olives. It was a fantastic experience, and we bought several bottles in the gift shop that are not available in the UK. The sweet Pedro Ximenez has rapidly become a favourite for our family!

It's not easy to find, but once you realise it is opposite the Andalusian Equestrian School you can follow the signs. The School is open to the public on Thursdays, so this would be a great combined trip. If you plan to visit by car though, make sure you have a non-sherry drinker in the party!

“Excellent tour of the winery - but beware the "tapas"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2014

The Sandeman Winery - Sherry Wine - is tucked away in the heart of Jerez de la Frontera and is incredibly hard to find. There are road signs to "Sandeman" but you are dropped at the next roundabout or junction. Local maps are not a lot of help as they misrepresent the junctions/roundabouts and give no indication of the direction of the myriad one-way streets. The winery is actually right next to the famous Spanish Riding School (Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre) which is also well worth a visit.
There are tours throughout the day - with English language tours 3 or 4 times a day. Our guide - Alice dressed in Sandeman logo 'Cape and Hat' - had excellent English and was clearly very knowledgeable about the winery and the different sherries and their "manufacture". The parts of the winery that we saw were spotlessly clean and very photogenic.
There are three types of tour (with different prices) - one with a three-sherry tasting at the end - one with a three-vintage-sherry tasting and another with sherry and brandy tasting. All tastings are accompanied by some crisps and bread-sticks.
BEWARE, however, of the offer - at additional cost - of "tapas" with your tasting. At Euros7.50 pp and consisting of a few slices of ham and cheese, it was a real tourist rip-off and spoiled the end of the visit. A real shame as the rest of the visit was most interesting!

“Sherry visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2014

This was a pleasant trip around House of Sandeman sherry cellar at only €7.50. The guide was very eloquent and informative. The tour was very short though, but the tasting was good, with 3 x 5cl glasses. Although we didn't partake, the optional tapas looked very poor value @ €7.50 extra.

“Good wine!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2013 via mobile

This is a place where they mature their wine. It has a large storage facility. It has free tours or you can visit the place on your own. Photography with flash is allowed inside.

After the visit, there is also a free wine tasting after which you can proceed to purchase the wines. The wines sold are not expensive!
