Having visited Merida first, i was unsure what else the area could offer that could compare with the sites we had already seen. I need not have been concerned. The beauty of Cacerras is that it is so compact. In order to get the best out of this site, you have to explore the alleyways. Let yourself and your family explore every nook and cranny, each turn will uncover another gem. I felt It was like a medevil game of hide and seek. Although the weather was not fantastic , i would say that this did not dilute the enthusiasm that was shown by numerous people visiting the ancient site.

The old town is gorgeaus, beautiful old churches, patios, mansions. Several hotels are inside these restored buildings.
Not too crowded and if you are lucky and visit during lunch time, you may be the only one on one of the small narrow streets enjoying the sound of a guitar played on the street.
Definitely worth a visit, followed by a stop over at one of the cafes that overlook the big plaza.

It's an open air museum. Beautiful even for those with little knowledge of history. For a little price one can get a good view from above the San Francisco Javier church bell tower

This is a beautiful small enclave of medieval life, wonderfully preserved. In a few hours you can see the churches, the palaces and feel the flavor of life five hundred years ago.
