“Lovely place to stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

Peaceful , tranquil , lovely spacious, comfortable bedrooms bedrooms. A sumptuous breakfast , staff very helpful and attentive. Spotlessly clean. Very interesting old city , felt like we had gone back hundreds of years.

Room Tip: We stayed in a second floor room at the back, where we could leave windows open all night

Very comfortable and modern hotel. May be too modern as we would have preferred the ambiance of old castle. Service at reception and at breakfast were great. Setting of breakfast restaurant in private garden is exquisite.

The building is not so interesting inside, nor is it particularly comfortable. It completely lacked that special historical atmosphere that we were looking for. Room was fine, nothing great. Beds and linens weren't particularly comfortable, bathroom fine but not luxurious. Do not assume that all paradors are equal. Read reviews carefully.

My family and I stayed at this parador for one night. We were really impressed by the beautiful decoration, the excellent service, the whole way the hotel was set. We had a huge suite that was more than enough for us and was beautifully decorated with a big stone arch in the middle of it. I would have rated this hotel excellent, but our room smelled a bit of humidity. It had two windows that we opened, but we couldn't leave them open because one was facing the garden restaurant and the other was opening at the street, that was really noisy. Maybe another room at another part of the hotel wouldn't have these issues.

Breakfast was abundant, with many local specialties. In addition one could order without extra cost, fried eggs, omeletes etc. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Do not stay at suite 106, since it is noisy.

Beautiful, luxurious, modern hotel right in the middle of an authentic walled medieval city. Wonderful property, top-quality service, high-end amenities, and a great breakfast buffet, all within short walking distance to all the monumental sites in the city. My only less-than-optimal observation is that the Parador is hard to access via vehicle, requiring a difficult ascent up impossibly narrow and complicated streets - make sure you have good directions prior to starting.

The interior of this hotel has recently been modernised and has none of the slight tiredness of other paradors. Inside is a rabbit warren with room numbers giving you no clue as to their location. Just follow the signs.
Finding the way to the hotel can be tricky. Don't put the hotel street address in your satnav. Put in Plaza Santa Clara. There is very little parking so get there early if you want a place.
Wifi is available in public areas but the signal is variable. In fact the two public rooms don't have a lot of space but you'll probably be out all day anyway. They do, however, come in useful if you want to relax in a comfy chair because the ones in the rooms put style before comfort.

Having stayed at perhaps 20 different Paradors this takes the prize for being the most difficult to locate. You finish up at a road barrier with a traffic light that appears to be permanently on red – the idea then is to phone (from a little box by the traffic light) straight through to the local police and tell them, in either your best Spanish or loudest English, that you’re not a terrorist but a guest at the Parador. If you’re really lucky an obliging elderly lady will open her window of the adjacent house and shout instructions (or perhaps obscenities) at you. It’s a great welcome. Next you find there’s only about 5 car parking spaces at the hotel - probably allocated on a first come first served basis.

Having engineered these obstacles you find yourself led from the car park through a back door and down a labyrinth of corridors to the reception. We had booked a superior room as Parador rooms are extremely variable in size and comfort. Room 103 turned out to be a large magnificently modernised bedroom within the confines of the old buildings – but at a price – 270 Euros a night. Gulp. We were on the ground floor just across a small garden from the main building. But it was without doubt a fantastic room. This was in fact our second visit here having previously stayed in an equally delightful room – also ultra modernised – on the first floor.

However, the rest of the hotel fails to excite. We ate in the very mediocre Parador restaurant and I have to say the bar was also a very dismal affair. Small, cheap and plastic looking with no atmosphere. We asked to take our wine out into the sunshine and sit in the garden but we were refused permission and scolded like small children. Not good at 270 Euros a night.

I looked with envy at the Relais and Chateaux next door and thought, well, maybe next time……
