This must be one of the quietest hotels that I have ever stayed in and, as a result, an excellent night's sleep.
The car parking was full when we arrived and so we were led to a garage in the main town and ferried back. No problem. Our room was of a good size and extremely comfortable, big bed, excellent bathroom although the design of the basins a little strange. Windows tiny and no view but, as I say, no noise either.
The staff were most attentive and polite at reception and in the restaurant where the dinner was average but the breakfast good. Care needs to be taken when ordering the plate of regional sausage from the menu as, although this is what it says in English, the Spanish says ' A plate of regional Cheese'!! Strange?
The hotel is perfectly placed aand it was lovely to be able to walk out of the hotel into this beautifully maintained and most charming historic little walled town.

We asked for a basic double bed room and got Room 209 which was very modern with a great bathroom, but a tiny window, so was a bit dark. However we were only there to sleep so it was OK. We didn't have any trouble finding the hotel - plenty of signs from modern Caceres to the Parador. Once you hit the bollards its just a simple matter of ringing the bell on the traffic light pole (always red when the bollards are up), say you are staying at the Parador or the Relais & Chateau and they let you in. There are signs to the Parador parking at the back of the hotel, but if you have a GPS and have put in the address you will arrive at the front door and there is room for parking for 3 cars there. What we hated about this hotel was that unlike other Paradors there is no bar area where you can sit outside and enjoy the view / fresh air. The Cafe / Bar is an internal courtyard lacking any kind of ambience, and the lovely garden adjacent to the restaurant is for meals only. There is no swimming pool either. We found all the staff to be really lovely. We did not eat there except for the breakfast which was a very good selection of typical European fare - that is no eggs bacon etc. We ate at Atrio the restaurant in the Relais and Chateau one night and although expensive ( 350 Euros) for the 10 course degustation menu and drinks, it was up there as one of the best meals we have ever eaten anywhere in the world, and the service was impeccable. There are lots of bars / restaurants in the main square at the base of the old city a 10 minute walk downhill if your budget doesn't stretch that far. Caceres is a wonderful old city and takes about half a day to walk around, but you need to spend the night so that you can see all the houses and palaces lit up - really magical. Also if you walk around in the late afternoon / evening its much cooler. It was 38C the days we were there, so oppressively hot at noon.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with large windows,. There are only 9 rooms with double beds, so book early if you w...

My wife and I headed down to Spain at short notice to get away from the miserable weather in the UK, and selected the Caceres Parador after reading the other reviews. After 5 nights there, we were not disappointed.

The building is an old Palacio that has been extensively renovated internally, in a modern minamilist style. We both thought this was great, and it suited our tastes. The blending of old and new was done sympathetically and worked well, in my opinion.

Finding the place was extremely difficult, and after finding myself at a blind road, finishing at the Plaza Mayor I walked to the hotel to get directions. Even though we were only 500mtrs or so away by foot, it required us to retrace our journey and drive almost completely around the town and approach from another direction. Without that being drawn on a map for us by the hotel staff, I don't think we would have done it easily. However, when on that route (from the SW I think), there were road signs to the Parador.

Entrance to the old town is protected by hydraulic bollards, which require buzzing the local police to lower them, which sometimes takes forever. There is a kindly lady living adjacent to these bollards, who constantly helps foreign travellers! Be aware that running the bollards is not an option - on the morning of our departure, we had to find a different exit as we found the police lifting a car off the usual exit bollards, after it was caught with the bollards raising under them. Their car was extensively damaged!

We found the staff generally helpful, and their English was very good. As usual, there is always a difference in approach with different staff members, but we were very satisfied.

Breakfast in the hotel was very good each morning, and encompassed all of the usual regional specialities of the region that you would want. Coffee was very good!

We had one dinner in the restaurant, and found it quite satisfactory, though it was probably pricey compared to other places around the Plaza. There is a lovely outdoor terrace and garden for dining, tastefully lit, which is a perfect setting to enjoy dinner and finish the evening.

Our room was very spacious, on the second floor, and comprised a large bedroom, a separate sitting room and a separate large bathroom, with spa bath a double shower.

We would happily stay there again if visiting that area.

Room Tip: Our 2nd floor corner suite had both the early morning sun and the setting sun.

Started off badly - parked in the designated parking area but no signs that you could get in the Parador through the back door. Lovely building but souless once inside and staff who frankly could not care less. We ate in a fabulous little tapas bar which I wish had taken the name of so I could review it. We decided not to eat in the Parador after dreadful treatment by restaurant "manager". glad we stayed at other Paradors first as we may have thought that they really were state run hotels!

Room Tip: don't stay here

I'm a fan of Paradores and this time it was also great. Our room was in one of the towers. It had a balcony. It had been renewed and was fantastic. We could hear the pigeons in the tower in the morning -this we loved but some people may find it annoying. The restaurant was also great, as usual. If I'm to make a remark, maybe the cafeteria may be a bit too small for that place. The inner patio is not big enough for a cafeteria.

We stayed here for one night on our way from Madrid to Seville. We loved the town of Carceres. The old historical town is very beautiful and interesting- especially so when lucky enough to hear some flamenco buskers playing in one of the old side streets. About the hotel- positives: The room was very large, very quiet and very clean. Bed very comfortable. Bathroom was great- shower over bath though. Fantastic recessed window in bathroom looking over old town rooftops. Breakfast was amazing! First class delicious food. Negatives: Hotel is a bit of a rabbit warren- had trouble finding room a few times! Finding the hotel itself was very difficult (despite signs) and once there, no-one on the front desk could speak english- which I usually don't care about and can work through, but because we were stressed related to finding the place and then re parking it made life quite difficult. Ended up having to park for extra charge in basement car park a few minutes from hotel- but we were driven there and driven back with our luggage, so no probs at all. Despite the language barrier, the service was wonderful and cheerful. We will definitely stay here again.

after staying in four different Paradores , we are terribly disappointed with this one. the corridor and room looks like a cross of upper class nursing home and modern hotel - with artificially created 'old world charm'. I would stay somewhere else if we would have not payed already. Renovation is fine- but this one has killed the ambience.
