The reviews for this hotel do not give an accurate description of this charming traditional 3 star hotel.
We stayed for 2 weeks in early Sept 2013 and spent week 1 in room 126; which did overlook an alley, but you could also see the sea. We overlooked two Italian families, who were high spirited at times, but that is the general nature of the Italians. The room was cool, which was a welcome change from the intense heat which averaged 30 degrees. The air conditioning is operated by reception and you can only regulate the temperature when it is on, which is roughly from 2pm until 2am the following morning.
Housekeeping arrived every day and we had at least 4 sheet/towel changes during our stay.
We were on a B & B basis and the variety on offer at breakfast would suit most tastes, which included: 2 choices of cereal, cold meats and cheeses, sweet and savoury bread rolls and the most delicious sweet deserts, which included a chocolate filled pancake roll (cannelloni) and a crème Brule – strange to have for breakfast but totally delicious. The waiters were also polite, busy but always helpful.
In week 2 we asked to be moved to a sea view, room 306 – we had a fantastic view. Shortly after moving we had a problem with the air conditioning and within 10 mins of logging the problem, the maintenance chap was in our room spanner in hand.
The location of the hotel is as near to the beach as you could get, you just had to cross the local road. The beach was pebbly and did drop severely, perhaps not a good choice for very young families.
The hotel staff was also polite and friendly, and enjoyed us trying to use a few words of Italian every day. We booked our taxi transfer through the hotel, who was also first rate and arrived 10 minutes early.
TOP TIPS – When departing for Catania airport do allow yourself at least an extra hour due to traffic, and their unique security queuing system.
We hired a car for 5 days and would recommend: Autonoleggio Italia in Taormina – 5 mins walk from the local bus stop. (firstname.lastname@example.org) DO NOT attempt to drive in Catania at any costs. Do visit Noto, Enna, Catania. Recommend eating at Ciao Ciao and Carpe Diem in LJ. LocaL buses excellent and very cheap.
