Hotel Barriere Le Westminster
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 4, 2014

Well located, near the entrance to the main town, with a good-size car park. Elegant and imposing, and recently refreshed. Spacious rooms. Staff pleasant, but no more.
Very quiet, even for breakfast in the main dining room, people all speaking in hushed tones. (Maybe something we weren't supposed to know about?!) The bar is atmospheric, period style with a jazz-theme.
Gentle old-world comfort and peace.

This is a lovely hotel in a great location. Nice clean comfortable rooms. Free parking. All excellent. However, if you go to the bar make sure you're not thirsty as there will be a wait until a waiter deigns to deal with you, and they will charge you heavily too. Beware of Cruella Deville at checkout. A miserable woman who exudes darkness

A very nice hotel to spend a weekend with friends on a 3 day golftrip.
Large bedrooms and excellent facilities. An enormous breakfast and very nice dinnerfacilities.
The bar is a little too expensive. Very friendly staff.

Unfortunately this was not the best experience we have had recently. It is a glorious place where we had a large, spacious bedroom and excellent en-suite facilities. The room was clean and well presented, and the turned down in the afternoon / evening. The bar is a bit expensive but then the hotel is not cheap, so the two go together. The photo's of the celebrities create a glimpse into the past, and attract some attention for most of the guests. The disappointments were as you arrived! The valet watched as I struggled with the cases and manipulated through the revolving door. When I asked for valet parking I was given the impression he was doing me a favour rather than offering a service. The receptionist was poor, he gave the impression everything was either a problem, or at least a real effort. This was just not the greeting we wanted after a relatively short drive, we were still ready to relax. The restaurant service was better. At breakfast I got the butter and the hot chocolate after asking and then prompting. I even got a cold bowl for my cereal, once I had approached a different waitress, as those bowls available on the service area were very hot and just out of the dishwasher. The wi-fi is obtained by getting the information from reception and using a password that is valid for 24hours, a hassle that is totally unnecessary in this day and age, there are easier ways of managing this technology that leave the visitor in charge. I think it is the little things that count and make the stay enjoyable, and in this case need more attention. The service didn't impress but the alternative hotels locally don't offer the heritage.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for sharing your opinion about our hotel.
Be assured Sir, that customer satisfaction is central to our daily concerns.
We apologize sincerely for not having met your expectations.

Our Concierge and Reception team are appreciated for their availability and kindness. However, I will share this point with them. Our efforts are ongoing to maintain the level of quality offered to all our guests.
Regarding the wifi, the connection is available to all our customers during the entire stay. The identifiers need to be filled for each connection so that appliances left without activities do not interfere with the quality of the flow of new active connections

We hope to have the pleasure to welcome you back to the Westminster Hotel & Spa in the near future.

Spent two nights in this hotel with my parents and my children. This is certainly a grand old hotel with an old fashioned ambiance but a staff which is so friendly and helpful that it avoids feeling stuffy. We had three rooms all on the second floor all of which were a high standard. We appreciated the small touches which come with grand hotel living including bathrobes, slippers and bedtime cakes! We had a really excellent dinner in the brasserie and spent many happy hours in the bar and on the terrace well looked after by attentive staff. I think that this is a really special destination for Brits who will enjoy a little piece of French history and want to spend a couple of days eating, drinking and relaxing in style.

We did not book this hotel in advance: we arrived in Le Touquet and checked the price on the tariff displayed outside, which was 260 Euros per night. I then used my phone to book through Booking.com and managed to get a room for 130 Euros. The room was small and had no air conditioning, which really is a must for a hotel that calls itself a four star. When we were there, swarms of mosquitos came out at night so we were unable to have the window open, which meant we roasted! The "free wi-fi" required a username and password that was issued by reception, which only lasted for one use and despite being issued with another I was unable to get online again. Despite these niggles we enjoyed our stay here: the staff were courteous and helpful and the breakfast (20 Euros each) offered a good variety of fresh pastries, breads, fruit and a couple of hot dishes. This hotel is steeped in 20th century history and we particularly enjoyed looking at the signed photos of all the well known people who have stayed there. The building is beautiful and well maintained and it is in a good location about a kilometer from the sea.

Room Tip: I think that if we had booked direct and paid the full price we might have got a better room. Ask fo...

Dear Madam, Dear Sir,

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback on the Westminster Hotel & Spa and your experience.
We are delighted that your stay went smoothly.

The rate you had trough Booking.com is the same we can obtain with us. The difference is just related to the room type. I think you choose a single room instead of a double because the room rate you mentioned is not available for a Double.

Regarding the wifi, the connection is available to all our customers during the entire stay. The identifiers need to be filled for each connection so that appliances left without activities do not interfere with the quality of the flow of new active connections
Air conditioning is not, in fact, not present in the rooms. We provide fans to the poeple who request it.

Again we thank you for your compliments addressed to our teams

We look forward to welcoming you soon

Sincerely,

This is a great hotel from the glory days. Frequented by many stars (photos in the hallway), it is an imposing building. The hotel is quite big, with "old fashion" elevators in the middle. The hotel has a nice feeling to it.

We were in one of the executive rooms, a corner room, so a lot of light. The room is big and well appointed. The bathroom/toilet is nice, but very outdated. The plumbing can do with a update (little water pressure although we were on the 1st floor). The shower is part of the narrow bathtub and can only be used by small people. The shower head is fixed on the wall at about 1m60 or so, and when you take it out, it could not reach the top of my head (1m95).

But the bed is very comfortable, the safe is usable but internet cuts out after 12 hours of use for when you reserve the hotel for one night.

One important thing, though close to the main access road, the hotel room is very quite. When we visited it was end May and temperatures were around 15°C. I noticed there was no airconditioning, which will be greatly missed during summer months. For such an expensive hotel, I'd expect at the least a good airco system.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback on the Westminster Hotel & Spa and your experience.
We are delighted that your stay went smoothly.

We have noted your comments and would like to make a few answers. On your next trip, do not hesitate to ask for a room with shower. Indeed, some rooms have both a bath and separate shower. It is true that when we are tall, the wall fixings are never high enough.

Regarding the wifi, the connection is available to all our customers during the entire stay. The identifiers need to be filled for each connection so that appliances left without activities do not interfere with the quality of the flow of new active connections.
