“LUCKY US!”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

I have stayed at the Westminster before with various friends and/or relatives and HAVE been a little disappointed as the rooms WERE in need of refurbishment and the Hotel felt a little "tired" generally BUT as this is, in my opinion, one of the lovliest buildings in Le Touquet I chanced an opportunity to have a romantic break there last weekend! (My partner had NOT used this Hotel before and loves gracious buildings with history!)
We were obviously luckier than previous guest reviews would indicate as we had an EXCELLENT (refurbished!) room....a Superior Double...if that makes any difference...and it WAS superior to the Superior rooms I've stayed in at the Westminster before! I wonder how they are working their refurbishment programme?!
The verandah IS small but taking a cocktail there in the late afternoon sun....watching the world go by...takes some beating!
I would give this Hotel 5* ....but I find reception rather cool....efficient.... but cool!
GREAT Concierge (we encountered at least two!) service though....with a smile!

Room Tip: We loved room 321!....refurbished to a high standard!

The service was awful - as if they couldn't care less. They tried to fob us off with a very poor room and we looked at two others before agreeing a very average room for the price.Whilst the location is good for the town there is only a very small terrace at the front of the hotel to sit. Think twice before booking this hotel.

Requested in advance a refurbed room, but was told they were all full already? I presume they are being saved for a chosen few. Stayed in room 8 on ground floor. Had view of wall and sky light covered in bird poo. Was knocked up by mini bar staff even though had do not disturb on door. Was asked on check out if everything was ok. I expressed my dismay about oppressive view from both bedroom and bathroom including bird poo. Reply- that's the view for that room! What was the point of asking me? I did not need to be told that, I'd paid through the nose for that awful view for three days! If I wanted poor service and a depressing view I could have saved a fortune and stayed at a two star hotel.

The hotel is conveniently situated within walking distance of the town and seafront. We were on the top floor and the room was clean and modern. We had booked on a room only basis, but had a delicious - and expensive - breakfast. The hotel pool had a very steeply sloping floor.

Room Tip: If you are on the top floor you are likely to hear the pigeons on the roof.

The Westminster is a much loved old lady of Le Touquet, dominating the approach to the main shopping area, and adjacent to the fine and graceful casino buildings. Both restaurants in the hotel are stylish and serve fine menus, with the brasserie offering buffet starters and desserts that are excellent, with fixed price main courses of good choice. Larger golfing parties are well catered for in a private dining area.
Breakfast is fine, if limited in choices - same every day! The bread selection is fantastic, but the cereals less so, as you might expect in France.
Badging itself as a spa, is a little wide of the mark if you expect a good range of facilities - the pool is small and the Jacuzzi and sauna are only what you would expect to find in a UK local leisure centre - nothing out of the ordinary - and the pool is tiny. There are no attendants and the changing area is unisex.
Our room was fine but others were complaining of cramped attic rooms. There is a programme of refurbishment, which is good, but there is some current noise and disruption.
We enjoyed our stay and would recommend to others.........avoid the pricey bar though!!

Room Tip: Avoid the attic rooms and ask for one that has been refurbed.

The Westminster is a nice hotel, in a great location, but I our opinion it is overpriced and over rated. We were a group of 16 golfers who stayed at the Westminster for 3 nights - I will add that we have stayed there on previous trips. We stayed on a B&B basis, but unfortunately this time the breakfast wasn't that great and the restaurant staff didn't seem to interested in their job or their customers and only replinished the food when asked. Empty plates were only removed when the table was vacated. Bedrooms were ok, although one of our group staying in a single room didn't like the fact that the shower had no curtain and water flooded the bathroom floor. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel so can't comment on the evening meal, but we did drink at the bar one evening but soon stopped once we realised that a small beer (1/2 pint) was 6 Euros! Overall it was ok, but not worthy of 4 stars, or the price paid.

Didn't stay here but called in for a drink on a day visit to Le Touquet. Beautiful day so sat on the Terrace of the bar. The waitress was pleasant and so helpful and we had fabulous non alcoholic cocktails and were offered a choice of delicious pastries. None of this was overpriced in fact we could have paid more for less appetising drinks and pastries in town where the setting was noisy and unattractive. We spent a very pleasant and refreshing hour sipping our drinks and watching the world go by.
