Owner description: Koldinghus was built in the middle of the 13th century, and in the centuries that followed it was one of Denmark's most important royal castles. In 1808 there was a fire that left the castle in ruins – a romantic relic. Today the castle has been restored and houses a museum which is a centre for cultural activities and special exhibitions of international standing.

“Stepping Back in Time ...”
Reviewed June 26, 2012

First built in the 13th century (approx 1268 A.D.) by Christoffer I, the Danish Royal Castle Koldinghus is located in ... yes, you guessed it, Kolding Denmark. Even though this castle has undergone many renovations throughout the centuries, the oldest remnant still standing was built by Christoffer III in 1441-1448.

The castle grounds aren't nearly as wow-inspiring as the tour of the castle itself. Inside, you'll see many artifacts, including furniture, jewelry, works of art, etc. One of the most interesting facets of the tour include a glimpse of the original structure from the 1400's.

I suppose you can say that if you've been in one castle, you've been in them all. Not so with Koldinghus.

Words can't describe the feeling of historical significance found within the walls of Koldinghus. Truly a step back in time.

“If you are visiting Kolding - then Koldinghus is a MUST”
Reviewed May 28, 2012

I lived in Kolding for 3 years, and I never did get tired of seeing Koldinghus. It is situated on the top of a hill, next to a wonderful lake. Koldinghus has several events, so you should check their website before visiting. You can climb to the top of the tower to have a nice view over Kolding. Or, you can join the locals and go for a run round the lake.

“Beautiful Castle you should visit if you are in the neighbourhood”
Reviewed May 6, 2012

This is a beautiful castle, which has been nicely restored. Besides a lot of Danish history you can normally visit one or two exhibitions. Current it is an exhibition of famous Danish lamp maker Poul Henningsen and on silver. They have things for children as well and during holidays there is a number of special activities including activity ones. You really ought to visit this place if you are in the neighbourhood!

Only did see it from the outside, but amazing building. It raises up high above the city and are visible from almost everywhere. Fairytale like at night with the lights on the old brick walls
