“Exciting food in house with atmosphere”
Reviewed July 27, 2011

The restaurant "Vaegteren", with the added tagline of 'Kærlighed og Kogekunst' which means 'Love and Culinary Art' has a very nice atmosphere to it. The interior decoration is kept in an old country house style and throughout the decoration is consistent with old manor tables and other furniture, solid damask table runners and nice napkins.

We chose the fixed menu, which is extremely reasonably priced at 33 Euros for a three course menu.
For starters, we had shrimps with fresh salad and mini croutons made from rye bread with a dressing that could very well be a home made thousand islands sauce.
We had a bottle of the white house wine, recommended to us by the efficient and kind waiter (who was probably one of the two owners) - a Chilean Miraflora at 30 Euros which suited the shrimps very well.

The main course consisted of a steak with fresh new carrots jazzed up with peas and pea tendrils and with new potatoes and a tasty mushroom sauce to go with it. Everything was cooked to perfection except for the steak which was a little to dry for my taste.

We had the loveliest dessert with strawberries; a little round cake topped with strawberries and a strawberry marinade and ice cream. It was really delicious.

The service was excellent, the atmosphere is unbeatable and the food is good. What more would you want from a restaurant?

“This resturant want to be among the best”
Reviewed June 8, 2011

It was a quiet evenin in the resturant and the staff gave good attention.
The food was excellent cooked and presented, but some in our party meant the flavour was sparcly.

This might be the best resturant in Frederikshavn

“One of the best in Northern Jutland”
Reviewed September 23, 2010

In the charming coastal town of Frederikshavn, you may not expect to find a top restaurant, but.... if you ever go to Frederikshavn, do NOT miss Restaurant "Vaegteren", centrally located in Frederikshavn. The restaurant is owned and run by twin brothers, who not only serve a scrumptious meal at reasonable prices, but also compliment it with outstanding service and good wines. We had excellent scallops for entree, veal for main course and a black currant desert arrangement + Sancerre, Brown Brothers Shiraz and water. All was excellent, not least the service, and the total bill came to DKK 1500 (USD 250). Considering the high level, this was a bargain
Oh yes, maybe we should mention, that eventhough we did not take advantage of it, the liqueor table included very old Corton Bleu and Armagnac, in addition to other top brands and labels
