Owner description: In the History Centre Dybbol Banke you step directly into the events of the dramatic war of 1864. You become be part of the drama and you will learn more about one of the most important battles in the Danish history. Experience history with all your senses: When you enter the territory, you will hear how the thunder of cannons is blended with the shouting and crying of injured soldiers. Go on your journey of exploration and find out, how a correct redoubt is built. Look into the barracks in the "soldiers' town" behind the front where the young and tired soldiers try to get some rest between the bloody battles. The war 1864 resulted in the disappearance of the multinational Danish nation state. Denmark developed into a national small state and got a part of Southern Jutland in form of Schleswig back. Prussia grew into the expanding German Empire which later sank and developed then into the Federal Republic Germany we know today. Therefore, the war in Dybbol is a central landmark in the European history. If you are ready to occupy the History Centre, then we are ready to offer you a very special adventure. Fascinating, entertaining, but also really serious.

This museum tells you important Danish history from 17th century: the 3 year war between Denmark and Germany 1848-51, the various battle between Denmark and Germany in 1864 and how the borderline between the two countries known today was drawn after elections in 1920. Two movies starts and ends the visit and in between you can walk around primarly outside to see what the war zone/area might had looked like back at the battle at Dybbol in 1864. Possibility to take a longer walk around in the area as well (free).
