Hotel Ecu is a good budget choice for staying in Genk. Easy access by car (parking leftside of the hotel for 5 euro a day) or by train (station across the Europalaan). Rooms are refurbished, white and clean. Our deluxe room for 99 euro was spacious (and warm). The promised airco turned out to be a fan. You can open 2 windows. But rooms at the frontside of the hotel suffer pretty much trafficnoise of the busy Europalaan 24 hrs, The bed (no twin) too soft. Bathroom has a big bath.
Breakfast (self service) was not at all special for 15 euro pp. Supplementing food too slow. Breakfast should cost no more than 10 euro or included.
Staff is friendly. A more expensive option is the sisterhotel Carbon (also Europalaan 90 meters from Ecu). Carbon has an award winning design restaurant (Gusto). Not budget.
