“Excellent skiing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2013

This place is wonderful both for families and young people to go - it is slightly smaller compared to large resorts in Austria, but it does have perfect service, it is much less crowded and with selection of both cabin and normal lifts you can use your preferred style of downhill skiing. It has to be mentioned that it does include a Blue Tomato freeride park - great place with a lot of fun!

“Great resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

Easy access from the village and suitability for beginners and improvers, great for families with children as ski schools operate nearby. The village has a variety of restaurants and après ski pubs which are lively. The scenery is breathtaking from the mountain top and there are lovely walks and cross country trails to explore.

“Hidden Resort of Maria Alm”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2012

This is a great little traditional Austrian town which is off the main tourist trail. The ski area is massive in the Mühlbach, Hochkönig ski area. Fantastic long wide blues and red runs through the trees with some great mountain restarunts. About 20 mins drive from Rauris

“A very pretty little town.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2012

We visited Maria Alm during the summer while staying in the smaller resort of Hinterthal further up the road. Maria Alm has a lovely atmosphere with a decent selection of hotels and restaurants in which to enjoy a beer, some strudel or whatever takes your fancy.

By far the most imposing building is the church, which has the tallest spire in the area. It is so tall in fact that it is difficult to get it all in the viewfinder of most cameras, so a tip:- the best location to take a photo of the church, with the mountains in the background, is to go out onto the Hinterthal road where, after a couple of hundred metres you can pull in at some roadside hotels and get a great picture of the church.

“Careful where you go!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2012

Maria Alm is a very pretty town and well worth a visit - ski-ing or not. There is a beautiful church to visit and lots of nice bars to sit outside in the sun. However, we had a very hostile encounter with a woman running a shop called Lifestyle Alpin, who clearly does not like tourists! We were warned not to touch anything in the shop as it was "No self service! No touching!" even though it was a shop clearly selling souvenir-type items. Maybe it's just the English she doesn't like, but be warned! We go to Maria Alm quite often, as we have an apartment not very far away, but we certainly won't be visiting that shop again.
