Stay was between Christmas and New Year December 2011 to meet up with family and friends to celebrate a birthday. Thought we would be enjoying country house comfort and surroundings but what a disappointment. Our room was shabby, scruffy and dated with the smallest, old-fashioned TV I have ever seen. It was far too hot and stuffy but the radiators had no control valves fitted. The chairs were uncomfortable and the upholstery soiled and marked. The worn out curtains didn't meet when closed and hung off the end of the rail. There were several spent bulbs in the ceiling lights. The bathroom had probably been recently cleaned but it was hard to tell. There were dirty marks around the taps and the shower screen had not been moved to clean under it, leaving grubby marks where it sat on the bath rim. We tried to relax in the residents' lounge but the shapeless, sagging cushions in the sofas made this impossible. Nearly all the standard lamps contained broken, spent bulbs. We felt like moving out immediately and finding somewhere else but we were meeting friends to eat in Miltons restaurant attached to the hotel, which thankfully saved the day. It was comfortable and the food excellent. We had breakfast there too next day but hastened away rapidly afterwards.

Dear Sheila M

Sorry you did not enjoy your experience with us in December 2011.

Over the last few months since you stayed we have been working towards improving the quality of the all of the hotel. We have invested in new televisions, new sort furnishings, toiletries for the bedrooms etc. Most importantly, we have significantly increased our investment in staff training, removed unnecessary and worn furniture from bedrooms and we have redesigned both of our lounges, providing an increasingly comfortable and relaxing environment for all of guests. We have received increasing praise for the changes made to date and believe we will continue to move forward.

I am sure if you were to visit us again when you are next in the area you will see the improvements we are making and be delighted with the hotel.

A one night stay was pleasant enough. Not the greatest value for money, but neither was it too silly expensive. I left feeling somewhat as if the hotel was a part time hobby for the owners. The descriptions on the hotel web-site slightly over-egg the reality. The rooms were not sparkling clean either.
The restaurant was also a bit of a disappointment - nothing to complain about, just not as good as I was expecting.
Nicer than a plastic hotel - just not special

Stayed whilst attending a friends wedding. Booked on-line (not aware of any 'wedding' price) and cost of a superior double room £160! Comfortable and clean but not anywhere near justifying this price - only basic TV channels, small old fashioned TV and overall decoration somewhat old-fashioned (in need of a freshen up). I'd also expect the levels of service to be higher for this sort of price e.g. 24 hour room service - but was told around 1am that there was no-one available to prepare a light snack/sandwich, although 'I could have a beer if I wanted'.

As a wedding reception venue very pleasant but not what you'd call value for money at this price.

We attended my niece's wedding reception here. Our room was excellent; a large double ground-floor with patio door and a small-sitting area outside. The bathroom was quite large and extremely clean. The bedroom had a desk and chair, flat screen TV and two armchairs. As wedding guests we paid £87 which was very good value for the quality of the room. The wedding itself was held in the Oak Room, an elegant drawing room. The staff were friendly and efficient. The food, both the lunch and the buffet later were very tasty. Situated in pleasant gardens just outside Wokingham, I would rate this hotel very highly.
