For such an imposing manor house in such lovely settings I have to say we were very disappointed with the afternoon tea. Tea was tea bags without much flavour, the scones were like biscuits very dense, very dry, salty and not easy to eat. The jam was quite ordinary too sweet but not much fruity flavour. The chocolate cake was dry and felt shop bought but the Victoria sponge was quite good as were the macaroons. The sandwiches were nice, not sure what the cucumber sandwich brought to the table though apart from the fact they’re typically English, it just felt like a cheap way to serve a sandwich. The service was good and the table setting was lovely but all in all very disappointing.

The pluses were a lovely setting & the member of staff who served & greeted us was polite & welcoming, which added to to my 3 star rating. However it was a very under whelming afternoon tea. No choice of teas given, just a standard pot of tea. I did ask for coffee as an alternative which was provided. The experience all felt a little rushed, as soon as our hot drinks were served, the sandwich’s and cakes were bought out. There was not a choice given as to which filling we would prefer or what bread. Between two we were served, 2 fingers of egg sandwich’s, 2 fingers of cucumber, 2 fingers of salmon, 2 of ham. The cake stand consisted of 2 scones with fresh cream and jam, 2 large slices of Victoria sandwich, 4 small macaroons, 2 bite size brownies. We ate the scone and had the rest of the cake wrapped up to take away. Personally I would have preferred a greater variety of pastries instead of the chunks of Victoria sandwich. I felt variety was poor, from a hotel which I had previously considered of a good standard. We had a glass of Prosecco served, which was pre ordered when we booked, but no offer of looking at a drinks menu to purchase additional drinks.

I have just had the best risotto I have ever eaten. The rest of the family had beautiful sea bass and a gorgeous fillet steak. Totally unexpected for a Wednesday. Would recommend the Sancerre. And would obviously recommend the ambiance- a very special place and a great surprise

My husband and I had booked one night including dinner and breakfast.
The room was lovely nice and cosy! The food was delicious. Staff was brilliant and always attentive!
The only thing that has stopped me making it a 5 star was the bathroom the hot tap in the sink didn't work and just dripped out. And the shower was really slow and you had to bend backwards to get underneath it. I think if our stay was longer I would of mentioned it and I'm certain they would of sorted the problem out asap!
Other than that! I would highly recommend anyone to come and stay here! The house and grounds are beautiful and you really are well looked after.
I would happily stay here again!!

The poorest afternoon tea ever. It consisted of finger sandwiches on normal cheap white bread cucumber, cheese, egg mayonnaise, smoked salmon. The scones where a disgrace they where so small and flat if there where homemade which I doubt someone needs a lesson in cooking. Then there was not a homemade cake to be seen 1inch Square all soggy because they had been frozen. We where never asked if we wanted fresh tea or coffee. TERRIBLE
