Owner description: Painshill is a beautiful award-winning 18th century landscape garden in Surrey. The 158 acre wonderland has something for everyone and makes a great family day out. Discover the mystical follies, historic plantings, the John Bartram Heritage Collection of North American trees and shrubs (Plant Heritage, NCCPG), and some of Surrey's amazing wildlife. You can spend a whole day at Painshill or there are shorter accessible routes around the Serpentine Lake. Dogs on short leads are welcome. Bring a picnic or visit Hamilton's Tea Room. Visit the Painshill Shop for gifts, greeting cards and to buy Painshill English Sparkling Wine.

“Beautiful spot”
Reviewed July 1, 2012

This is another example of some "lost gardens" being brought back to life. In this case, the gardens were built in the 18th century with the mandatory range of follies and lakes as well as exotic plants.

The whole site takes a couple of ours to ramble around, with plenty of room for children to run around, and some lovely "set pieces". Much of it has been sympathetically restored, though some further restoration is still in progress or planned.

A lovely spot which I hope to visit again some time.

“a visit to Father Christmas”
Reviewed May 22, 2012

We took my grandchildren to see Father Christmas in his grotto. It was a cave in the grounds of this Park and a very exciting outing for the children. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed the walk to the cave, swans and ducks on the lake also amused the children. This is not a cheap outing, but does offer a unique visit to see Father Christmas in a very different setting.

“interesting place”
Reviewed May 16, 2012

a nice place to go and see - the grotto was the most interesting part - we had a really good (short) "tour" by the guide and, although it's mostly closed for renovations, we still have an informative look inside. I was a bit disappointed that there was no house on the grounds - it feels like that's what's missing - but what is there is nice to see.

“Nice way to spend an afternoon”
Reviewed May 6, 2012

Even though it was slightly raining the family had a nice afternoon walking around the lakes and enjoying the views from the hill. I imagine that in the summer this would be a great place for a picnic. There are surprises around evert corner
