On Saturday night we made our third visit to the Riverside since December. Again, for the third time the food and service were first class, really ecceptional. The mini burger board for staters, a steak and the chicken chorizo dish for main courses, the sticky toffee pud and the cheese board to follow. The twice cooked chips are such a brilliant change from the usual freezer offerings. Because this high standard is, for us, the norm for the Riverside I had not intended to post yet another review about its virtues. However, it seems under attack at the moment and must reassure potential visitors that it remains top of the class.

We have dined here on a number of occasions since it opened, and each time we have found the food very good and the staff very friendly and helpful, and great atmosphere with a welcoming fire. It is not gourmet food but good pub grub in a relaxing environment. They have changed the menu but still keep some favourite items on it, which is very good becuase if you go on a regular basis it can be boring knowing before you go what your choices are. We have been with friends and family in the past few months and all were catered for, and happy with the food. The burgers are delicious and served with, amongst othert things, a lovely smoky pickle. The fish and chips were lovely last week massive portion for me, but fish was very fresh tasting. We looking forward to going back again next week.

We turned up reasonably late - but the restaurant was happy to still cater for us.
We both went for the rib-eye steak and they were excellent - which is not that common an experience.
The waitress serving us was new to the place - and she was very pleasant and friendly

We had a meal for four on an evening which was not very busy. The service was extremely slow and the waiting staff were more interested in chatting and impressing known customers than in serving. The food was average with the fish in particular very greasy. Chipped enamel pie dishes are for extra dog bowls not for paying customers puddings.

The atmosphere was poor. The establishment was a mixture of heavy drinkers at the bar watching as diners arrived, families playing games at the table as they waited for their meals, along with more mature groups of diners and couples and I believe at times it is also a cafe. By trying to appeal to all it may find it will appeal to none.

It was extremely disappoinitng and I would not recommend this poor service restaurant at all.
