“Pleasantly surprised!”
Reviewed July 7, 2010

Having lived in the local area for many years, Dunblane Hydro has never been somewhere we have been tempted to try for dinner however, with Nick Nairn's name above the restaurant door and with really good feedback from friends and neighbours, we decided to try the 'Kailyard' for a family birthday celebration lunch. We were really impressed! The food was excellent and the service too. Once they identified that we had a 'birthday boy' on board, his dessert plate came to the table with Happy Birthday piped round the rim (beautifully!) in chocolate - WOW! We also thought that it was really good value - £17.95 for three courses including a glass of wine. The staff wear a badge with 10 on it - when we asked why, they explained that their aim is to make the guest experience 10 out of 10 - they certainly did it for us! We'll be back!!

We read your comments on Trip Advisor with interest. For many years the hotel has not offered much to local residents in terms of a good quality restaurant at a reasonable price but we are so pleased that you visited the Kailyard Restaurant for your recent celebration. Glad that your event had the ‘wow’ factor and that you thought the staff achieved a ten out of ten as far as you were concerned. We are pleased to read that you intend to come again!

It was good to read your feedback posted on Trip Advisor. We were pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay although we share your disappointment in having a poor experience in the Kailyard. Your feedback is so useful to us and has been passed on to our Executive Chef. We’ll take on board all your comments and hope to see you again sometime soon.

This is the third time that a group of a dozen or so Ferrari owners have stayed at the Hydro and it just gets better and better. The improvements made over the last few years have turned an already impressive building into an impressive hotel! The Bar area is plush, trendy and comfortable and the Restaurant likewise. Our group hired the Wallace Lounge for a saturday night dinner and the food was terrific. If only the England football result that we watched in the bar during our stay was as good as the hotel!! I noticed that the staff were all displaying badges aiming for 10 out of 10 in service and performance. Job done by all concerned and see you next year.

We cant thank the staff enough. My mum sisters and I stayed for 2 nights to celebrate mums 60th birthday.Staff were fantastic in both the hotel and spa which made my mums stay.
On our first night in the restaurant we were served complementary champagne with our meal, the meal was delicious mum loved it .Our rooms were lovely ,clean and spacious but no air con the rooms a bit to hot in the night fan was okay but not enough. On the second day we got an upgrade ,as the toilet wouldnt flush. Which was lovely as we had a front room and the views from the window were beautiful.
The only down side to this hotel is that the spa is not within the hotel. Most spas we have been to have had relaxation rooms with facilites for drinks and fruit as part of your treatment. Also would have been nice lunch in your robes.
That aside the treatments were very good and staff helpful. We will be going back to this hotel in the near future.

Pleased to see that you had such a good time celebrating your mum’s 60th birthday and that you enjoyed staying with us. Unfortunately it is not possible to incorporate the Health Club into the main building and we don’t have the facility to provide more than drinks and snacks. Glad that didn’t seem to spoil your stay and we look forward to seeing you on your next visit.

mixed review-here are the bad bits;room was tiny and did not have a view so window was frosted glass, and was far too hot with no air con, very uncomfortable, room quite dusty, could hear next doors tv as if were our own, no hand wash in toilet, one receptionist could not smile and quite abrupt-good bits;fantastic drive up to hotel, stunning from outside, breakfast was fab, quite modern room, drinks not too expensive. had a relaxing stay.

My mum and I stayed at the hotel for the first time, we didnt know what to expect but first impressions were that it was a stunning looking hotel. We were checked in very efficiently by reception team and the room we were given was clean and comfortable. The only problem with the room was that the window didnt open but we were given a fan which was ok. Dinner in the Kailyard was superb, one member of staff in particular, Laura, was excellent explaining certain dishes and advising on wine choices. We enjoyed our spa treatments the next day and dinner again on our 2nd nt. Bfast both mornings was excellent also. Cant wait to go back with the rest of my family so that they can enjoy it also. Excellent location not too far from Glasgow.

Upon arrival at the Hydro it was so impressive and on entering the interior, even better. After a major refurbishment, this Hotel was outstanding. Our bedroom which was a deluxe was beautiful and very tastefully decorated. The only complaint, was lack of air conditioning but I guess Scotland is not used to the hot weather we were experiencing that weekend but we asked for a fan, and this was brought up straight away. I honestly can't complain about this hotel at all and would love to go back. There is one big but....the taxis are really expensive. We were recommended by the porter to go to a place 6 miles away called the Frog and Thistle (which isn't worth going to and especially after we found out the ex chef of our hotel ran it, that's the only reason we were told to go there!!!!!) He ordered us a taxi, which for the distance would be maybe £12 or so roundrip......try £30!!!! The next night, we thought, lets go and eat in the Bridge of Allen, and thought lets check the taxi fare as it's only 2 miles there.....£20 return! What a joke. There's not much in Dunblane, an Indian, Chinese and a couple of pubs but we walked in and went to the Indian, which was really good. We are not cheap but that's mad for a taxi fare. We have been told, the best bet is to get the train (station walking distance) into Stirling, so that's what we will do next time. The restaurant at the Hotel looked really good but we prefer to get out of the Hotel and go to difference places. Dunblane is such a pretty little place with a beautiful Cathedral and such a relaxing place to stay with Stirling only being about 5 miles away.

Dear sofieNorthWales
Thank you for your feedback on your experience in the hotel and local area. Taxis can be expensive; however the hotel is situated in walking distance of the Train Station and our local bus service, which do work out cheaper. We are glad you enjoyed your time with us and we do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back.
Kind Regards
