Went with work for two days. Conference facilities were good and staff helpful.

Strange catering experience though as hot lunch was the same two days in a room.
Dinner in the evening was good but other disappointed with choices.
Smoked salmon was excellent but passion fruit Creme brûlée to tart to taste.

An impressive building which has been renovated well - though in places is already tatty and tired. The bar had a nursing home smell. Room was nice, though I had frosted windows on both room and bathroom - avoid room 201 if you want a view. Bathroom was large but shower had disappointing pressure and I could hear another guest's conversation while I was in the bathroom - so either shares a vent or has paper thin walls. Bed was comfy. Wifi is chargeable which is a joke considering the price of the rooms - plenty of other places offer it for free.

Dinner in the Kailyard restaurant was a HUGE disappointment. Not sure what Nick Nairn's involvement was but it certainly wasn't the food - supremely AVERAGE food served by often sullen foreign staff. Small portions. Drinks in the bar are prohibitive - head to the pub down in the town centre for decent drinks.

I used the LivingWell gym and pool. Gym is desperately needing investment and almost all machines had some sort of wear and tear damage, and were not good to use. Pool area dingy and had tiles missing. Changing rooms cramped and dirty - and lots of tiles missing from floor.

Reception staff at check out consisted of 1 trainee receptionist despite long queue to check out and she was extremely rude - answering the phone in the middle of my trying to answer her questions. Took 2 attempts to get the bill right. No urgency in her trying to sort out the bill for me.

All in all - a very average hotel that doesn't justify it's swanky reputation and eye-watering prices.

Room Tip: Avoid anything that's not front-facing otherwise you'll have a view of the bin area, or fros...

As you will be aware the hotel was built in 1878 and as some rooms look across the rather angular slate roofs to the rear of the building the designers agreed that frosted glass would be preferable. As I’ve said above, the vast majority of feedback for The Kailyard by Nick Nairn is very positive and we are working hard to deliver consistently. Your comment about our staff being sullen is very hard to believe; all our staff work very hard to offer excellent customer service as a matter of pride. I am sorry to hear you did not find this the case. We do feel that our pricing structure reflects the quality of food offered and relates well to prices charged in similar hotels. Your comments will be shared with the hotel team to help us review and improve our service.

Requested a room upgrade; however the hotel was full and they could not facilitate the rquest. Disappointingly small room and bed which was not very comfy. My husband booked me a facial which was in a bedroom, it was noisy wth trollys wheeling up and down the corridor, doors banging and people chatting loudly....NOT relaxing in anyway - cost = £69.00 for under an hour!! That evening the loud music from the wedding kept us awake. Will not return as this should have been a relax and recharge.

I am sure you are aware that the hotel was built in 1878 and has a range of rooms of different sizes and styles, I am sorry to hear you found the room too small for your taste. We do have notices in the LivingWell corridor requesting silence. We are, however, reliant on all our guests to respect the fact there are treatments going on. I am indeed, chagrined to hear you did not find your time here relaxing.

Looking forward to a weekend away. Wedding and a fancy dress party on so hotel was buzzing which was nice. Staff, mainly all uk for a change, very pleasant, especially Kyle and Rachel. Ate in the Kailyard which was way over priced for the fair on offer. Not staffs fault but service was very slow. Don't think they had enough staff! Breakfast same, waited ages on first morning to order some coffee. Had a night cap on both evenings, bar staff in good form.
Room clean but no air con. Fan in bathroom didn't work and toilet flush was a struggle. As we were in a disabled room you would have thought this would be checked. All in all though nice and clean.

Room Tip: Always mention when you are booking if you are looking for an easy access room.

We stayed here for two nights and would highly recommend it. It was booked as a surprise Birthday treat for my partner and it exceeded my expectations. The staff were very helpful, especially the receptionist (Colette?) and Kyle in the Restaurant.

I have stayed in four and five star hotels while travelling on business and this is definitely one of my favourite hotels! We each got a treatment in the spa and I would also recommend this.

There were only a couple of minor issues with our stay, firstly we had to change rooms because the toilet in our first room wouldn't flush, reception dealt with this very quickly and we were moved immediately. Secondly, there was a glass, from another guest, left sitting outside the room , it was then joined by an empty wine bottle! There were glasses left outside a few rooms for duration of our stay. I see from other reviews that this is not uncommon but generally the hotel was very clean. Our stay was not ruined by these minor hiccups.

The hotel was perfect for us and the staff were brilliant. Will definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Parking at the hotel was a little challenging as there wasn't a lot of it and we drove around trying to find a spot, eventually. On arriving at the reception everyone was really friendly and we were checked in within seconds, very painless. We were even given a large hot cookie each. Our bags were taken to our room by the concierge...something which rarely happens in the UK these days. He also gave us some tips on where to eat that night.
As we had just landed from Dubai we were a bit tired and only went to the hotel bar for a quick snack that evening. Service was great and we had a very reasonable toastie and chips and a few drinks before having to retire early to our bed. The room was a little small but adequate and the bed comfy.
Breakfast was a fairly extensive buffet and what we had was very tasty. Again the staff were all lovely and very friendly. Check out, again was really painless and when we mentioned how much we really enjoyed the hot cookie the day before the receptionist gave us another one!
I'd happily stay here again but maybe for a little longer than a very swift stop over as we arrived late and left at 8am so didn't get to use the facilities. Nicest hotel we've stayed in, in Perthshire, with the exception being Gleneagles.

It was lovely read your feedback. This is exactly the experience we wish all our guests to have; especially after travelling for such a distance! The cookie is just what you need at the end of your journey (or also beginning in your case!) don’t you think? We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

We stayed at the Dunblane Hydro from 8th -12th April 2012 for a short family break. We just wanted to say thank you to all the staff for an enjoyable stay and in particular to Natasha and all of the restaurant team for their special attention with regards to our son's dietary requirements due to his medical condition. Also thanks to the bar staff, Craig & Callum, for entertaining our son

We were impressed with the hotel facilities and the especially the excellent food! We hope to visit again soon.
