“Lovely place - would definitely stay again”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2011

My partner and I recently stayed at the Dunblane Hydro for 3nights during the Easter hols and loved it. Room was nice, ground floor part of the Stirling wing, no complaints. Reception staff very friendly, staff @ spa really accomodating. Swimming pool is OK, not amazing, but good for a wee swim. Was always fairly busy with families and kids. We treated ourselves to a massage whilst there which was good value :) Hotel and grounds are gorgeous, very peaceful, lots of greenery, great view across Dunblane and hills in background. Short drive to Stirling town centre which is good for shops. We also drove to Loch Lomond which was 1hr scenic drive, another lovely peaceful place. Breakfast was ace in the hotel, lots of options. We didnt eat at the Hotel restaurant (Kailyard) but we did eat @ the nearby India gate which was v.nice. We also ventured into Bridge of Allan (5min drive) which has lots of cosy/decent restaurant options there too. Would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.

This hotel was luxurious and comfortable, food a bit pricey, but fantastic service - but the breakfast was fantastic.
Very clean and generally to be recommended.

The only thing I have given less than 5* in this review is for service -one or two niggly points which unfortunately stood out for us.

However we had a lovely stay here overall. We were with our family for a "milestone" celebration and had a great time. The hotel overall was beautiful - perhaps with the exception of the dated leisure pool - our rooms were very nice, with views over the front to Dunblane, and food both in the Kailyard and at breakfast were excellent.

Check-in took a bit of time (we had 4 rooms booked) and not all rooms were ready,. However the keys to the remaining rooms were delivered to us within about 30 mins.

The service issues which spoiled things slightly for us were firstly when in the bar at 6pm - not an unusual time to be looking for a drink - but no bar staff to be seen! We sat for fully 10 mins, and were about to leave when a young man appeared and started pouring a pint of beer. When he looked up and saw us (we were actually sitting at the bar) he almost grudgingly asked if we wanted something .... and then made quite a song and dance about organising our (2) drinks! To be fair I think he was actually getting drinks for the Restaurant, and we were holding him up - but that wasn't our concern! Eventually the young lady who was apparently in charge of the bar appeared, and took over with great flair - but for us the damage had been done.

Finally a lack of communication demonstrated a lack of customer service for us; we had booked a Suite for ourselves, and double rooms for the rest of our family. All of the rooms were beautiful, and we had no complaints. However, bizarrly in our Suite there was a card from the Manager saying he hoped we would enjoy our "complimentary upgrade"; as far as we could see we were in the room we had booked and paid for! We went to Reception and asked for an explanation. The Receptionist was a bit confused and took the card from me; she checked on the system and could find no explanation although she did wonder if we should have been upgraded to a "Superior" suite. She said she would find out and get back to me ........ I'm still waiting! I didn't chase it up because (a) we were quite happy where we were and (b) I didn't want to waste our precious time hanging out at Reception! However I did expect when we checked out that there would be some kind of explanation - but no; apparently the girl I had dealt with had simply thrown the card in the bin and moved on to the next customer - there was no information on our booking to show that I had spoken to anybody at all! Would have been nice if at that point the Receptionist checking us out had offered us an upgrade for a future stay, or something similar, but she wasn't interested in doing anything apart from getting our payment finalised!

I feel rather guilty about "moaning" about this, as we had beautiful rooms and had a great stay. However I think this is the first time we have ever been "upgraded" in a hotel and to find it was a "phantom" upgrade was disappointing!!

Thanks for taking the time to provide some excellent feedback following your recent stay at the Doubletree by Hilton Dunblane Hydro. Disappointed slightly by the lack of certain areas of the service you received, and we will certainly use your feedback to raise the concerns with the operations manager.
Please also accept our apologies for the incorrect card which was clearly left in your room signed by our General Manager. We have a number of cards that the Senior Management team use to welcome a wide variety of guests, all which have a slightly different message noted within. Clearly on this occassion it was just a small error which left you with a slightly misplaced welcome card. We will certainly ensure that slightly more attention is paid to this valuable service, to ensure the gesture is appreciated.
We are pleased to note that you had an enjoyable stay with us and hope to see you again sometime soon.
Regards
David Walker

We stayed our last two days and nights in Scotland and after we arrived we wished we had booked one or two more days there. The staff were very nice, room service was quick and the food great. The lounge was busy with variety of guests who were kind enough to chat it up with a couple of American sisters traveling for the first time. The room was nice but the bathroom was even better. We had a beautiful view of the city, spacious grounds of the hotel and we witness some very beautiful sunsets from our window. We enjoyed swimming, sauna, and the steam room. If we hadn't shopped all day and visited the Stirling Castle we would of taken full advantage of the massage and make overs. The only constructive input I would have for hotel is that they need to work on their porridge. The local B & B's had them beat on that.

Room Tip: The fourth floor rooms have amazing views of City

arrived at a glorius hotel in excellent condition. Beautiful entrance but lots of stairs to reception which is on the first floor, there is a lift to it, so use if u have suitcases. Very friendly and professional reception, we were given a lovely cookie on arrival. Hotel is in excellent condition, redone in 2009 and u can tell. Our room was on the 2nd floor facing the front, the gardens, try for a room here, theres an extension on the back of the hotel doesnt look as nice or have a nice outlook. We had a deluxe room, dressing gown slippers, good neutrogena toilettries and a whirlpool bath with seperate shower cubicle. Room very comfy. Had a meal in the kailyard restaurant by Nick Nairn, lovely but pricey, again great service. Try the cocktail bar for evening drinks. We went into Dunblane for something to eat but nothing there then went to Stirling and found only a few places open in the evening. However, had a great time, more than enough to do onsite with the leisure facilities, great food, wine etc. One of my favourite hotels, we will go back. A great base to explore this part of Scotland. Usual Hilton outstanding quality.

Arrived 3.40pm. Granted check-in states 4pm but to be told that your room is still showing up on the system as 'dirty'(!) well, it's just not what you want to hear!

@ 4pm, went back to reception and given key. Room OK but had booked a junior suite. To me, the room appeared too be a larger room with settee. A suite should surely have a seperate room for relaxing in? Was told that this was in fact a suite.

Dinner fab. Food fab, service fab.

Breakfast; arrived 25 mins before breakfast due to finish. Young waiter clearing tables nearby - VERY noisey! He literaly threw cutlery onto a tray for clearing! Not very relaxing!

When checking out I mentioned all of this (& other niggley details!) to reception whereby they took off cost of dinner from my bill.

We'll go back as I love this hotel, but keep on top of everything if you want what you pay for.

The hotel location is like a calendar picture, it is absolutely gorgeous. The main part is besutiful, chick and the staff is verey helpful. It is very clean and tidy. Howeveer, the newest part which is the one you stay with promotions is a bit shabby looking. The room is quite nice but the corridors look like a old hotel. But it is a small downside for such a great place, great food!
