We visited the newly refurbished Torrance Hotel for Sunday lunch, what a transformation it looks great. Thankfully we had reserved our table as the restaurant was completely full. The service was very good considering that the staff were clearly rushed off their feet, the food came out prompt and was hot and tasty. On reading the other reviews I feel that they are very harsh considering that the Hotel that has all new staff, new menu, new tills etc...Give them a break!!!

After hearing so much about this newly renovated / recently taken over establishment, I decided to treat my best friend to a long overdue catch up meal in East Kilbride's Torrance Hotel restaurant. Dropping in ad hoc on a saturday afternoon probably wasnt the wisest of decisions, but the lady who greeted us (long dark hair,i assume manageress??) was very calm and accommodating, despite the restaurant being full to the brim, and managed to squeeze us into a spare table for 2 after only a couple of minutes wait. We were given menus and our drink requests taken immediately, and allowed to soak up the atmosphere for a good 5/10 minutes before our food order was taken - a big plus in my humble opinion as there is nothing worse than, well meaning, but overbearing staff making you feel as if youre using up a table for another imminent party - thankfully,we were never made to feel like this.

The food came extremely promptly and was good value for money (we both had crispy tempura and it was delicious,so no complaints to be had there, just wish we could have had some more, but thats not a criticism of this restaurant, only our own greedy appetites). The mains especially were of a very decent size: my companion ordered the spicy noodles that came in a massive portion with a sauce that wouldnt have tasted out of place in an authentic japanese establishment such as nanakusa / oko express; for myself i had the lasagne which, very generously, came with a choice of either garlic bread / chips, not that i had space for either of these sides after id chowed down on it, huge as it was!

We were too full to order desserts,so cant comment on these, but were offered the chance to see the dessert menu, which, in my experience, staff can all too often miss out on offering (dessert is my favourite).

All in, the staff were efficient and helpful, so much so that we thanked the man in the blue shirt (owner?) for such a lovely time; the food was good value and very tasty, with a wide range of choices for all and the overall ambience was welcoming and private enough for a conversation, but not so morgue-like that u worried about others overhearing this conversation! Maybe i should include a negative here but i really am struggling to think of any, and believe that due credit should be awarded when due, so four fat lady thumbs up to the brand new torrance hotel.

Room Tip: didnt stay in a room so cant comment.

Decided to pop in for a meal to check out the place . The bar and restaurant area is stunning but the food was awful. I had ordered Prawn cocktail for starters and it was so bland it tasted of nothing I said to the waitress and she just said sorry. We both ordered chilli beef noodles for main it just looked like slop on a plate and the spices in it were overpowering that it couldn't be eaten I like spicy food but this was ridiculous we actually started to wonder if this was deliberate as I complained about my starter being bland so they thought they would blow my brains out with the noodles but we will never know. Service needs worked on also.

On first arriving at the Torrance I thought it looked amazing compared to old. It looks like a lot of money has been spent on the place.
My probelm with the bar is they don't seem to know what age group they want to attract. I thought it was for the over 25's but the over 25's don't want loud music from 8 oclock in the evening when they are trying to have a laugh with their friends.
The beer was as flat. The prices are dearer than normal but would except this if everything else was great.
Hopefully this is all teething problems.
The staff seem nervous? Don't understand this.

my husband and I stayed at the Torrance on frid 21st oct ,theTorrance has been beautifully renovated the bar and restaurant are so welcoming the staff are very pleasant. The room we had was room 21 which looked like it had been renovated already it was a lovely modern room the bed was very comfortable The corridors however are still very dated but I am sure that once renovated will be beautiful . we dined in the restaurant the staff were very attentive and pleasant the food was lovely although my husband felt the portion size could have been better and he is NOT a big eater . overall we had a very pleasant stay and will certainly return to The Torrance on our next night out in East Kilbride .

Decided to go to the Torrance in the village in east Kilbride as we had passed by a few times during the refurbishment and thought it looked lovely, for a family birthday meal with 12 family members. Restaurant re furbishment was gorgeous and was really nice inside, however this was not to be said for service and disgusting food , which for a restaurant that they wish to be they have a long way to progress.

After waiting 1.hr 30 mins for our mean meal, which we did not complain as we were enjoying each others company and catching up, but no apology or if food experience made up for it, but food that arrived was terrible. Chef should be trained in particular cuts of meat and know sirloin from fillet which I ordered and also (one waitress was so nice )that even herself knew that it was sirloin and not filllet. Also hand cut chips= burnt and hidden under food and also portions not good for price.
We as a family love to eat out and try different restaurants and do not mind waiting, if food is delicious, but this was such a disappointment and disaster.

I would normally give a restaurant a second try, but unfortunately I will not be returning as this was disgraceful and the whole experience.

Take away was delivered for on way home.

Live near the torrance and have witnessed it being transformed over recent months. Had never been in the restaurant before but it's now really well done and stylish. Booked a table in the restaurant on a sunday evening for wifes birthday. The menu has a good choice of dishes and the food was all fairly tasty for our party of 4 but the service was particularly slow and unattentive, it certainly doesnt live up to the high standard of the surroundings!! Dont understand why you would spend fortunes on a refurb and not bother training your staff.

Welcoming traditional village hotel in walking distance to Scotland's largest undercover shopping and leisure centre in East Kilbride. East Kilbride has many local attractions including Village Theatre, Golf Courses, Ten Pin Bowling, Ice Skating, Odeon Cinema and is only 7 miles from Glasgow city centre. Built in 1773 by General Stuart of Torrance as a cotton-spinning mill and workers' houses the building in Torrance Square provided a focus for town life. In its many incarnations the popular Torrance Hotel has also housed a school, a shop and a Coaching Inn, but it has always been at the heart of East Kilbride. The building has retained all its original character and charm. We have 20 comfortable bedrooms including the newly refurbished Honeymoon Suite for 2007. Enjoy a meal in our warm and friendly restaurant or lounge bar which caters for a wide range of food from traditional meals to bar snacks. We are a 5 minute walk from the local train station which will take you straight into Glasgow's Central Station which runs every half hour. If more information is required then do not hesitate to ask our friendly receptionist staff. We would like to advise guests that there will be no bar or restaurant facilities for the next 4 months.
