“Nice hotel; good pool; shame about the smokey rooms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2011

We normally stay in Hamilton when in this area, but they were full, but took up vacancies in East Kilbride instead.

The Hotel was not in an obvious location and we had to resort to SatNav to find it (Its under a flyover 2 miles outside the town). Driving though the town centre was never likely to reveal its location!

After noticing the health club and pool were open for residents we nipped out for swimming gear for the family! We were glad we did, as it was a good and unexpected bonus.

The only downside were the rooms. We booked a generic room and were placed in a smoking room without being asked. They stank and made breathing difficult - as it was only one night we just stayed and left. As a courtesy, they should have checked with us before allocating rooms. I know I could have specified non-smoking, but just did not expect such a malodorous atmosphere in this day and age.

The breakfast was OK; we just had the buffet, but kippers and porridge are available to order - pity I did not read the menu card before eating the buffet.

There were just enough options to satisfy a gluten free diner, but more could have been available. (e.g. more cheese, more fruit etc).

Staff were all friendly and pleasant.

Would stay again if the option arose.

Thank you for your review and I was pleased to read that you had an enjoyable stay and will return in the future.

Your comments regarding the allocation of a smoking bedroom is valid, and when we refurbish our bedrooms we may well consider converting all smoking bedrooms into non-smoking rooms.

The lack of fresh fruits and cheese on our breakfast buffet will be discussed with our chef. We normally offer a good selection but on this occasion we obviously fell short and I apologise.

We look forward to welcoming you back, when you rebook please ask for a non-smoking bedroom and we will ensure your request is honoured.

Kind regards

Bruce Robbie, General Manager.

Along with my family we had a very pleasant and comfortable stay at the Holiday Inn East Kilbride. On arrival, we had a very friendly and cheerful welcome and good chat with our children too. The room was very clean and the beds were very, very comfortable - our only suggestion would be to make sure that there is tonic water in the mini-bar to go with the gin! We were out for the evening, but enjoyed an extensive buffet at breakfast and my requested poached eggs and the boys pancakes were brought within 10 minutes. Although we didn't make time to use the Pool, we would plan to do so the next time that we stay.

Many thanks for your positive review and I was pleased to read that you had an enjoyable stay with us.

We will take on board your comment about having tonic water in the mini-bar, this should have been available but when being re-stocked it must have been missed.

We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Kind regards

We chose the Holiday Inn at East Kilbride for a stop-over night on our way up to Skye. Two years ago we had stayed at a hotel in Moffat for the same reason and had a really bad, disturbed night with lots of noise. This year could not have been more different! The hotel was clean and bright from Reception right through to the bedroom. The Reception staff were polite, interested in us and very efficient!

We had been upgraded to an Executive Room and it was huge! The bathroom had a bath, seperate shower and lots of room. The bedroom had a sofabed for the children, a large bed for us and pleanty of space for the children to move around in. I wondered whether the close proximity to the lifts might cause us to have a disrupted night sleep, but I certainly heard nothing!

The breakfast choice was wide and the restaurant large enough that we felt that we had plenty of privacy. The swimming pool was lovely and a great facility to take the children to after a long car journey. The staff throughout the hotel were lovely and we all had a really good time.

Next time we have a holiday on the Scottish Islands, we won't be making the mistake of stopping off in Moffat - The Holiday Inn at East Kilbride will be where we book. The cost was considerably cheaper too!

Stayed here for a week on business - it's a decent hotel with all you need, including a very nice pool. The room I had was once of the suites and it was large, comfortable and quiet.

The wifi was good and I was able to get work done in the evenings.

If there is one complaint I would have, it would be that the breakfasts start too late at 7am during the week. I had to be out at 7 every morning and so missed the full cooked selection.

Thank you for your positive review of the hotel, we really appreciate people taking the time to let us know when we’re doing a good job.

When you next stay with us please ask for the duty manager and we’ll see if something can be done with regard to offering some form of cooked breakfast before the official 7am start time, if it’s required.

Kind regards

This is the second time myself and my husband have stayed at this Holiday Inn. The first time was in June 2009 at the beginning of our honeymoon and this time was for our second wedding anniversary. We were very surprised (and delighted) to find that our room was upgraded to an executive suite for the two nights that we were there! The room was huge, comfortable & clean. We made good use of the facilities (gym, pool, sauna, steam room & jacuzzi), we both felt very relaxed, just what we needed! I'd highly recommend this hotel and I can't wait to go back again!

We stayed here for 4 nights while visiting family before a trip over to Turkey. It's pretty standard amenities and a large hotel for the area. Room was very tidy and the king-size bed was very comfy. There were 2 adults and 1 toddler in the room so it was fairly cramped quarters but the Bruce Hotel in EK was similar size. One thing to note, you can take the elevator to your floor but on our floor (2nd) we had to drag luggage up and down two short sets of stairs to get to our room. A bit of a pain and not sure how they accommodate elderly or disabled patrons. Everything costs extra unless you get the suites and we purchase the breakfast (very good but pricey) and the Wi-Fi one night. The connection was so sporadic I requested a credit. If you have to do work in your room I would test the Wi-Fi signal as soon as you check in. The only other unpleasantry we experienced was accidentally using some bath towels that hadn't been washed properly and we notified housekeeping.

All in all we'll be staying here again. Most likely will not pre-purchase the breakfasts as its quite pricey and there are other options to have breakfast in the area. But its good for the first morning.

Room Tip: Wi-Fi signal is iffy towards the back of the hotel. Check as soon as you check in.

Many thanks for your positive review and it’s good to see that you plan to be repeat customers. We really do appreciate your constructive feedback.

If a guest is staying in the section of bedrooms you mention and require help with their luggage we offer this on check-in.

With regard to our Wi-Fi provision we are currently reviewing this, at times when demand is very high and the current system can at times fail to work. This is work in progress and an updated system is being trialled at our sister hotel in Glasgow at the moment.
We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Kind regards

I booked this hotel for a night away, it was my birthday the weekend before and I decided to treat us to the night off. Packed the kids off to Nana and Papas and drove literally 5 mins from our house to enjoy a night to ourselves.

I have to say I was nervous after booking and reading some of the recent reviews about the property but as far as I am concerned they were all unfounded. When we are lucky enough to get a night off I usually splash out on DBB at 5 star hotels in central Glasgow but having been disappointed by them so often I decided to take the cheaper option this time and I certainly wasnt disappointed this time!!

The food was yummy, the room was lovely, the leisure facilities were great and the service was outstanding, Sarah at the bar has a real knack of making every customer she speaks to feel that they have her personal attention and Clare in the restaurant was lovely, always smiling!! The next time we are lucky enough to get a night off I wont be bothering to book one of Glasgow supposed "best" 5 star hotels, I'll be coming back to the Holiday Inn East Kilbride...thanks for a great time!!

Room Tip: Upgrade for £10 to king size room, was lovely!!
