“Not brilliant”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2012

We made the mistake of driving into central Bracknell for some lunch en route elsewhere. Very little obviously available apart from McDonald’s (this on a Friday lunchtime, although admittedly we don’t know the town so there might have been other places which we didn’t come across).

The Bull advertised wonderful burgers, which suited us well. The place was near-enough dead when we went in – I had to ask whether it was open. We ordered a beer, a tea and two burgers with chips. They list homemade burgers of a variety of exotic meats and with a variety of available extras, cheeses, sauces etc.

Our first burgers came out with mouldy buns, which was rather off putting. There were sent back and eventually replaced, along with extra complimentary chunky chips and onion rings. The replacement burgers were fine if not outstanding – I think some of the exotic meats probably just don’t suit burger making and end up a little dry, such as the bison burger I tried. The onion rings were obviously homemade but unfortunately weren’t great – they ended up clumped together and there was a fair amount of uncooked batter involved. The onions were also too strong/insufficiently sweet a variety for deep fried rings in my view.

It has to be said the chap behind the bar serving us was very pleasant and apologetic for the mouldy bun episode, and the gesture of free food items was good. Nevertheless, we wouldn’t go back, although frankly we probably wouldn’t head back to Bracknell in a hurry anyway!
