The Park Hotel Motel
Ranked #3 of 3 Hotels in Suffolk Park
Reviewed October 11, 2013

As regular Byron Visitors, we decided to stay in Suffolk Park instead of town this year and thus experienced the park hotel in Suffolk Park. We arrived to the manager belittling his staff in front of patrons, then overheard the locals discussing him, apparently a bully who targets women! Not a nice start to our dining experience which then went from bad to worse! The food was ordinary, my steak overdone and my wife's pasta was swimming in cream with undercooked chicken!
The smokers area was right at the front and we could not escape the smoke even inside!
This place seems to cater to the drunken local smokers rather than the tourist dollars. There are plenty of wonderful establishments with better management we would rather support with our tourist dollars than this tacky pub!
We rate it 0 out of 10!
Don't waste your time or money here!
Suffolk Park was lovely though and we enjoyed the other restaurants, bakery and beach in this part of Byron immensely!

We decided to pop in here as we were staying nearby and fancied a bite and a beer. I had reservations after seeing the reviews on here but decided to give it a go anyway. The dining is basic in a kind of canteen style - order at the bar and grab your own cutlery etc - but the service was friendly and efficient. The menu is fairly basic pub grub but should cater for everyone (gluten free options even). We orders a chicken schnitzel, fish and chips and I had a burger which I certainly could not fault very tasty and plenty of it. We sat on the deck area which may not be the smartest but we wanted to be able to smoke so that was our choice. I would certainly recommend it for good pub grub and may well go again it time permits (obviously I'd go before the kitchen shuts - we were there around 7.30 - I wouldn't expect them to be serving all night, maybe that's just me :) ).

maybe it was a good thing that you turned up at 8.46.? I ate a really terrible Saltbush lamb rump there last night- with a whole lot of poor quality chirizo chopped into it. I'm not a fussy eater but it was awful...and not cheap at $27 when you have to order & pay at the counter, find a knife and fork, & clear a table to sit at. my partner's Beef strog was good so perhaps I was unlucky.

When I enquired I was told that I could order food up to 9 pm in the restaurant every day. One day I turned up at 8.46 pm but was told no, I couldn't have any food because the kitchen closes at 8.45 (a minute earlier!). On another day I turned up at 8.40 but was refused service because the kitchen 'had just closed'. I was offered no apology. I get the distinct feeling that this establishment is run for the benefit of the staff and not of the guests! Made me think of Fawlty Towers when the Americans came to stay at their hotel. I think the Suffolk Park Hotel needs to be careful. There are plenty of good eating places in Byron Bay that I suspect will soon be taking their custom if they don't change their attitude.

Great pub. The Suffo as its known locally is a friendly pub and very acceptable of alternative people providing great food, friendly service with a smile a good atmosphere. Thursday night is $10 schnitzel night and Friday nights are busy and fun. Also has quite a gay attendance so a good opportunity to meet the locals who ever you are. From Tradies, Surfers, Families, Altrrnatuve, all happy people.
Great food!!!!
