We stayed for a week and were very happy. Located in a handy spot for transport and plenty of eateries near by. Spinal bay is a beautiful place. The boats and the water front are classic and set a lovely scene.
Service was excellent, meals great and Jazz night by the roof top pool not to be missed.
We will definitely be returning to visit again.

We took a standard room. Pros:
- the room was spotlessly clean
- any amenity you might want - toiletries, tea/coffee, safe, minibar, robe and slippers... perfect!
- staff was very welcoming and informative.
- the location of the hotel is perfect, right in front of a bus stop that will take you anywhere, and right in the center of the town.
- the hotel has a garage.
- free wifi. (should be the norm in my view, but worth mentioning).
- the breakfast was very good, and all choices are available even if you're a latecomer.

Cons:
- standard rooms come with minimal windows(our room had a small window giving on a light well, so no view at all) which is OK if you plan to spend your time visiting, but probably disappointing if you expect the gorgeous view presented on their web site. if so, upgrade to bay view!
- The hotel restaurant (Zest) was a let down. Making a separate review for that one as I don't want that to downgrade my rating of the hotel.

Stayed in a junior suite for a week and it was perfect . View across the bay from the balcony was lovely . Busy area but great for people watching. Stayed the second week in August and it was mid thirties all of the time but the air con was brilliant and not too noisy. All the staff throughout the hotel were friendly and very helpful . Breakfast choice was great and always fresh , loved the freshly squeezed orange juice and cooked to order eggs of your choice. The promenade walk to Silema was lovely but we also walked through the backstreets away from the touristy areas . The Maltese people are very friendly and helpful . Had a walk to Paceville area and wished we hadn't ! Tried the beach at St George's bay , which was nice but the music from the beach bar was horrendous , but suited the many youngsters who gathered there .

Room Tip: Worth paying the extra for a junior suite with balcony and great views of the bay

This was our first visit to Malta. Which we were pleasantly surprised how much we loved it.. We split our holiday into 3 resorts and had had 2 nights in Valetta a week at Golden Sands and the last night here in St Julian's ... All great resorts but In hindsight I wish we'd had longer here as Spinola Bay in St Julian's as it was gorgeous and so much to see which we didn't get time to.

The Hotel is in a great location facing directly over the most pretty picturesque little harbours I've ever seen especially on a night when lit up. We went on one of the alumina yes little love busts in the harbour wonderful.
The staff are very warm and friendly and had left us a bowl of fruit for our wedding anniversary which was a lovely kind touch.
The Hotel is very calming and Zen like inside which is quite a contradiction to the hustle and bustle of the street cafes outside but the rooms must have good soundproofing as we heard nothing once inside.
We had a suite with sea view which had the most breathtaking harbour views a pure delight.
The only very slight negatives I can say is the suite was a little smaller than I imagined it to be when sharing with a child and the fridge wasn't working. (Not the hotels fault just a slight technical issue). And they maybe could do with some rubber grips on the pool steps as I slipped getting out of the pool.
The drinks and cocktails were good and the complimentary fresh lemonade by the pool area is a great little touch.
The breakfast was nice albeit we had been slightly spoilt in this area as we'd stayed a 2 large five star hotels previously in the holiday so obviously not quite as much choice as we'd been used to. It would be a even better for English guests if perhaps you changed the following...

Maybe you could offer the orange juice as help yourself rather than just been brought one glass from behind the bar !
My husband had to ask twice for his cup of tea but ended up having coffee as the tea didn't arrive whilst eating his breakfast and gave up and asked for coffee instead.
However this is only a minor thing in an otherwise beautiful friendly little hotel that I would definitely recommend to anyone and will hopefully return one day.

Second time we've been here in two years and after the first time we have always talked about coming back. This hotel is a perfect spot for everything. There are more restaurants and bars than you will be able to visit in a lifetime of holidays here. There are so many good places to eat and drink its very tempting to keep returning to the first one you find, but you have to force yourself to try others. As many reviewers have said, the location allows access to the hussle and bussle but delivers this calmness inside with the modern decor, relaxed staff and excellent soundproofing in the seaview rooms when doors are shut. One of the best afternoon pastimes is sitting on the balcony with a drink admiring the excellent view and the countless people scurrying around below, not forgetting the entertaining traffic beeping around the port. The night view of the bay is breathtaking too, from the balcony after a night out (always busy below no matter how late), and equally from the rooftop pool. The rooms are spacious and we'll equipped, although I have seen some not so satisfied reviews of the standard rooms with no view. It's worth paying the extra for a sea view room, but possibly not the suites as the only advantage is they are just bigger. They are well decorated but between the first and second times we visited it was evident a fresh coat of paint is needed. There are three new top spec rooms on the second floor that I had a quick tour of and they are exceptionally well decorated and the bathrooms are truely superb. If that is important to you (as it is to me) then it might be worth considering. You may be like my wife, however, who doesn't see the point of paying more for an exceptional room when a very good one is cheaper, considering you'll be out and about a lot of the time. There is a posh restaurant on the first floor that we took one look at and realised its not our thing, prefering a relaxed informal chatty type place with traditional Maltese or Italian basics (note Italian food is big here and very very good). If you like formal restaurants with attentive almost bowing staff then try this, but the menu didn't seem to our taste either. The staff, as so many others have said, are all extremely good, managing to combine excellent service with a calm friendly nature rather than a yes sir three bags full false attitude, and this is one of the best features. The breakfast time is the best time to witness this, with all the service you would need combined with comments on the weather or travelling etc. One of my favourite features of breakfast is the eggs to order rather than in a self service trough. The proper crafted coffee from the bar is also a major plus point, as is the unlimited number of drinks (three cappuccinos each was the norm with the poached eggs) and the ability to just give a little knowing wink or nod to get another cup swiftly on its way. This is all possible due to the small exclusive feel to the dining area, which also is how the pool area on the roof is never really heaving and it was only on the Saturday we failed to get two sunbeds when we wanted, which is possibly due to the fact that the hotel seems to be open to the public on Saturdays, a reason for me not giving the full five stars, along with the aforementioned need of a bit of painting here and there, and the relatively poor pool bar (which may be a space issue more than anything). Saying all this though, if coming to St Julians again I would not consider staying anywhere else and book immediately.
