“Malta Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

In September I stayed at the Hotel Juliani in St Julian's Bay Malta. The hotel only had 48 bedrooms. They were well furnished in lovely pastel colours and very comfortable. However, do not think that when you are offered a junior suite you will get two separate rooms it is just one big room - really no bigger than an ordinary hotel room and, of course, you pay more. Breakfast at the hotel was very good and you must try the restaurant Zest which is attached to the hotel it is excellent but expensive. The staff in the bar area were lovely mainly Polish and Rumanians extremely helpful unlike the staff on Reception who could be a little cold apart from Caroline. It was very nice that the owner Erika actually took time out to come and talk to the guests including us she was delightful and very much a hands-on boss. The only downside to this hotel is that it is on a very busy, noisey road so if you are looking for peace and quiet do not stay here - although the double glazing was excellent you couldn't really sit out on the balcony, however, the views from the balcony over St Julian's Bay were great. The pool on the roof was also very small and there wasn't a lot of room up there at all.

Room Tip: If you want a view of the bay you need to be on the front of the hotel but it is noiser here - if yo...

Stayed for 1 week at this hotel. It was a comfortable hotel which provided a good breakfast and had the excellent Zest restaurant upstairs. The staff were helpful and friendly and probably what makes this hotel really work. However the soft furnishings in the lobby / lounge area are looking a bit tired / dirty, the infinity pool and roof top terrrace were disappointing and certainly not as per the photos on the Hotel site albeit the views over Spinola Bay were good. On a final point we had booked a deluxe room but when our room became ready at 3pm the hotel receptionist told us we were booked into a standard room. When I challenged this I was told standard and deluxe was the same thing for this hotel and it was just a terminology issue. However if you check their web site it clearly shows standard and deluxe as separate categories.
A pleasant stay but a few shortcomings.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a balcony.

We have just returned from a 5 night stay here. It was fantastic. Great rooms, excellent breakfasts, excellent staff. Everything you could ask for. As someone has already said it was an oasis of calm in busy St. Julians. (We stayed on Gozo first so Malta was very busy in comparison, but we had a wonderful time on Malta) We would definitely stay at the Hotel Juliani again. The hotel's Zest restaurant was also very good - we really enjoyed it.

We had a lovely week in the Juliani hotel. Being a small hotel, the staff are very attentive. They are really helpful no matter what you require from directions to places, recommendations for restaurants etc. Very friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel. The breakfast is lovely also. Very central location with bus stop directly opposite hotel.

So where do I start??
Location is the best ever, overlooking the Spinola bay with amazing sunsets and sunrises, walking distance from nearly everywhere in St. Julians. Just the thing we were looking for.
Excellent rooms, nice colors, spacious, clean as the hotel just opened doors, very comfortable beds, plasma Tvs with dvd players!
Breakfast is reeeeeally good, with fresh orange juice, your perfect coffee, fresh pastries, omelets, kind of dairy products and so on...
As for Zest restaurant I have no words!! Service amazing, quality of food really high, wine list very extensive. We dined there couple of nights and I think that this is the best place to eat in St. Julians even though that it is influenced mainly from Asian cuisine.
But what makes the place so unique is the staff! From the first email until the last smile you get when leaving the place you understand why Juliani Hotel is No.1 on Tripadvisor. Mr. Georgios (the manager) his wife, Ilham, Kenny, Alan, Lito, Christos, Alex, Alfred, Sasha, Luke, Ali is like your big family away from your family!! Always with a big smile on their face, always there to assist you!
It was an amazing experience and THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR THAT!!

We chose Juliani as it was a 'boutique' hotel and we could not have made a better choice. It is slap-bang in the centre of St George's Road, overlooking Spinola Bay with bus stops only moments away. And yet, despite its convenience, once inside the hotel you are in a quiet and relaxed environment. Our Standard Room was adequate, having a side sea view. The bathroom was particularly well planned and there seemed to be a place for everything. Everything is spotless and once the window is closed you would not know you were in the centre of town. The lady Receptionists were exceptionally helpful and the Night Porter who was on duty when we departed for our Sicilian Excursion at 5.30am and there again on our late return was outstanding. He offered us tea and from a chance remark about it being our wedding anniversary, organised cakes in our room! The rooftop pool area is small, but perfectly adequate for our needs at this time of year. We will certainly recommend the Juliani to our friends and if we ever return to Malta it will be our hotel of choice.

Room Tip: Possibly rooms towards the back of the hotel are quieter, but the double glazing is probably the mos...

This was my second visit to the Hotel Juliani, discovered the first time thanks to TripAdvisor. The HJ is well deserved of it's high TA rating. A stylish oasis of clam in the centre of bustling St Julian with beautiful design, well-appointed, comfortable/airy rooms and charming/helpful staff.

The hotel is in an amazing locatio - and with a bus stop outside you'll soon be whizzing your way into Selima or Velletta (buses 11, 12 and 13 will get you there in about 15 minutes).

The managment had noticed it was my birthday and there was a chilled bottle of Prosseco and a plate of Petit Four in my room upon arrival - a really nice, personal touch. As kBloke mentions, you do slightly miss the option to make coffee /tea in your room without needing to chase them for a kettle - but the breakfast staff will happily make you a pot of fresh coffee to take up. I'm a coffee drinker, it would be nice to see the addition of a Nespresso machine in the rooms in a hotel of this standard - it's something Radisson Blu have started doing in business suites and is a really welcome touch.

Always a sense of 'home' when returning to the Hotel Juliani and I simply wouldn't bother looking anywhere else in the St Julian area. Well worth trying Bianco's next door if you fancy simple but amazing pizza (they have an extensive other menu and great specials), but the hotel's own Zest resaturant comes highly recommended.

The only cloud on the horizon this trip was a slightly surly reception from the front desk when it came to checking out - which is why I've dropped my service rating from Very Good to Average. Shame one person dropped the ball on an otherwise wonderful stay - do not hestitate to try the Hotel Juliani too.

Room Tip: Always worth investing in a room overlooking Spinola Bay with a balcony to enjoy drinks at sundown...
