Stayed here in August to celebrate my birthday. We had pre-warned the hotel as we wanted the birthday cards to be sent direct.

The location was fantastic - on Balluta Bay with a bus service directly in front of the hotel which went all over the island.

We arrived early and the room wasn't ready but were offered an upgrade to an Executive Room for only 30 euros a night ! We jumped at the chance and were not disappointed. We had a lovely room with a beautiful view of the bay and access to the Executive Lounge for snacks and drinks all day, then at 4.00 were served canapes and all the drinks we wanted until 6.00 pm.
We were on the top floor, below the swimming pool and the noise was quite loud in the mornings and evenings, getting ready for the events to follow.
I mentioned this to Reception, who upgraded us again to a beautiful suite - one of the best rooms in the hotel - for the last 2 nights at no extra cost.
The Breakfasts were sumptuous with so much choice, so with the snacks in the Ex Lounge, we didnt really have to eat out much at all.
On the day of the birthday, room service delivered a cake decorated with sparkers and a bottle of wine, which was a lovely gesture.
I was sad to leave the Hotel and hope to return one day. It certainly made my birthday special and one to remember in such a beautiful place.

  • Liked — The Executive Rooms
  • Disliked — Perhaps the noise from the swimming pool which was above our room

We were in Malta and decided to stay at this property last minute because of the spa. My wife and I booked a room for two nights starting New Years eve and made spa reservations for the 1st. When we arrived and after we checked in we tried to confirm our appoinment and were told that the spa is closed. We explained to the staff that the only reason we booked here was for the spa. we were told sorry nothing we can do? Overall the hotel is nice but the customer service is lacking in all respects. If you are going to stay in Malta we would suggest the Westin over this property, no comparison.

This was an excellent hotel to stay in. I arrived a couple of hours early and while waiting to check in I was given a glass of ice cold orange juice. I was asked to wait for 30 minutes while the checked the room. After 30 mins I went back and was given the key to my room.

When I arrived in the room I was pleasently surprised to find that I had been given a seaview room. The room was large with king size bed, mini bar, TV, in room safe (which could easily fit a laptop), iron, ironing board. The bathroom had corner bath and walk in shower. The toilet was separate to the bathroom.

In the morning the breakfast had a huge selection to choose to from. It consisted of various cereals, cold meats/cheese, selection of fresh fruits, yoghurts, cooked breakfasts, bread, fruit juice, pastries, etc.

The indoor pool is a place to relax, rather than go for a serious swim. The outdoor pool is small, but if you want a serious swim there is an outdoor public pool across the road.

There is a bus stop just outside the hotel if you plan on going North. If you want to go south the bus stop is just about a minutes walk away. The hotel is in an excellent location for touring the island.

Bad points:-
Minibar is incredibly expensive - €7 for a can of red bull!!!
Again internet access in the room is expensive - €19 for the day. If you do need to use the internet there is free wireless access in the lobby.

We think this was the best hotel in Malta. Great location, friendly staff and surprisingly good food for a large, chain hotel.

We arrived late in the evening, and were welcomed immediately by the front desk staff. The hotel upgraded us to a junior suite as we were celebrating my retirement. The suite had a fabulous view of the bay and was quite large for European standard suites! Very nice!

We ate at the hotel lobby restaurant one evening when it was raining and we didn't want to venture out. The food was quite good and the menu had a nice variety to pick from.

The staff was very knowledgeable about the area and told us how to catch the local bus to see the sights of Malta. We did a "hop on hop off" tour bus for 3 hours that was worth the price. It was very infomative and gave us lots of information about Malta's history and the island in general.

There are many restaurants that are within walking distance of the hotel, but be warned that there is not really any kind of swimming beach close by. The hotel has a rooftop swimming pool that was not crowded when we were there, however, we did not use the pool.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the Le Meridien and would stay again if we retuirn to Malta.

The Le Meridien is a fine, new hotel situated in St Julians Bay about half a mile from thr Sliema waterfront and shops and about three miles from Valletta itself. To get into Valletta, take the ferry from Sliema ( about 15 mins walk from the hotel ) easy , cheap and stressfree. DO NOT attempt to take the car, it will take at least half an hour in the traffic and parking is cut throat!!
We spent a week at the hotel, lovely 8th floor room overlooking the bay - get upgraded to bay view if you can, otherwise view from the back is over allotments, car park and houses. Rooms are well appointed with decent size balconies, good shower/ bath rooms and usual amenities. The lifts are a great source of entertainment or annoyance depending on your available time or mood. Their arrival on your floor is pure lottery - they go past your floor, they go the wrong way or deposit you at the wrong floor. They also play 'calming' music or sounds like rushing water or Whales singing which provoked much comment amongst my fellow lift travellers.
The buffets in the Scirrocco restaurant are the weakest point of the hotel, uninspired and difficult to tell apart. We tried the Mediterranean buffet on one night and Maltese on another, very difficult to differentiate, except for the Maltese rabbit. If you are really hungry they are good value though if you just want to fill up.
The Villa brasserie is excellent on the other hand but comes at a price, about 120 euros for three courses for two with wine and apperitif - well worth trying at least once. Other top class restaurants very close at reasonable prices, I recommend the Barracuda, just across from the hotel.
The staff are uniformly friendly and eager to please, nothing is too much trouble. The hotel manager has a weekly cocktail party where you can meet her management team and put any points to her about your stay at the hotel, this is good PR and should be more widely adopted!!
Get a hire car, yes driving is 'different' here, but you quickly learn to drive in the Maltese rally style. Car hire is very cheap, mainly because the milages are so low. The hire cars are all now up to date a/c versions in good condition and the roads are improving thanks to EEC money coming into the island
Finally get to Gozo, the ferry crossings are easy, frequent and cheap. It is far more laid back than Malta and has some stunning scenery.

We stayed at this hotel in September for four days unfortunately, we should have stayed eight. We had booked four days at another hotel for the first part of our visit, what a mistake., but thats another story. When we arrived at the Le Meridien St Julians we were greeted with a sincere welcome and were advised that our room would be ready at 3pm. When we arrived back we were informed that we had been upgraded and that our luggage was already in the room. Our room was magnificient with two balconies a sitting room and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The staff went out of their way to make us feel special. The location was very convenient with lots of shops restaurants and the bus stop close by. We can't say enough about this hotel and we would return at the drop of a hat. We paid about 45 euros more than the other hotel, but the comparison was unbelievable.

Myself and my partner stayed at this hotel for a week in a sea view room - it is well worth paying the extra for this but do ask for a room on a high floor to get the full benefit. We booked using Maltadirect.com which gave a much cheaper rate than the hotels website. Breakfast was included in and was great - a wide selection of hot and cold dishes and my partner was impressed by the fondue of melted chocolate which was available every morning! We only ate in the hotel in the evening once - as at breakfast it was a buffet and the theme was Maltese dishes - it was ok but nothing great and there was no real atmosphere to speak of so I wouldn't recommend it.

The hotel is in an ideal location - on the seafront but not directly on the busy main road. You could walk into Sliema or go in the opposite direction to take you to Patcheville etc. We had looked at some of the hotels in this area when we were planning the trip but after seeing them we were so pleased with Le Meridien. The Juliani is on a busy road, The Intercontinental is right in the middle of Patcheville and the Hilton and Dragonara are a bit out of the way in my opinion.

The hotel has an outdoor pool on the roof which isn't heated but the area is good for sunbathing. The heated indoor pool is great and is open from 6am till 10pm with restricted access times for children (a big plus in my view).

The rooms are spacious and very clean - as is the whole hotel. The toilet is seperate from the bath and shower but they should think about installing a handwash basin as it was a little strange to have to go into the bathroom to wash your hands. The shower was powerful and there was also a corner bath. There was a mini bar in the room but you can have this emptied if you wish (we were told there would be a charge for this but it wasn't applied).

Others have mentioned the erratic lifts and they are a little strange - don't expect normal lift music - we heard a wide selection of "noises".

It was our first time in Malta and we would be happy to return. The buses are cheap and can take you all over the island. We loved Valletta and also prebooked to visit the Hypogeum which was very interesting. The food was great and the Maltese wines are worth a try. Overall a great holiday and the hotel played in a big part in our enjoyment of it.
