“Book the Club Room!”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

Had read the reviews.1st time in Malta and wanted somewhere not too far from home(UK) and hot as the "summer" 2012 in the UK was/has been just appalling!
The reviews were correct.Really friendly people, fantastic weather, lots of history, easy and cheap to get around.
The Intercontinental is a modern and large hotel in the heart of St.Julians just a short walk from the rather small St.Georges Bay. It has a young and trendy feel to it, mainly because it seems to be a centre for language schools so lots of teenagers and youths about but plenty safe enough. Becomes a little raucous at nights as lots of bars and clubs in the area.
The hotel rooms were large and clean and well specced.
Definitely get a "Club Room" package. I think the room is the same but you had all day/evening use of the top floor Club Lounge so could have free drinks and for a couple of hours in the evenings, free alcoholic drinks and canapes and other snacks. We had so much that on 2 of the nights we did not want or need to go out for dinner,as we ate so much during these "happy hours!". Also as the weather was so nice,it was a real boon to be able to come up after a days sight seeing in the heat(30-35 deg C when there in July) to have some soft drinks and browse the internet on the supplied computers or use the free Wi-Fi there or in your own room.Staff were friendly and helpful at all times.

The staff where nice and helpful. The room was clean and kept in good condition; however the pictures shown on their website are not the same as the actual room we stayed in (the deluxe room) the decor was simpler. The bathroom was unexpectedly big. The roof garden was very nice. The breakfast had a variety, I particularly loved their bread. The hotel does not have parking however there is a parking area next to it which you need to pay (the price is not much). There is a shopping mall opposite and there are a lot of clubs and bars in the surrounding area. We did not go to any of them as they where mostly teenagers and people in their early twenties.
For the price we paid I must say we got a pretty good deal. There are no complaints, we even suggested the hotel to friends who stayed there in April 2012 and they had a pleasant stay as well.

We have just returned from our two week holiday at the InterContinental Malta. This was our second visit to this hotel and once again we really enjoyed our holiday. Even though we wouldn't normaly choose to holiday in a 'party area' we do not have a problem with the location of the hotel. Yes, there are a lot of teenagers around and it can be noisy but we never felt intimidated and it was interesting watching the comings and goings from our balcony! As soon as the doors were closed we couldn't hear any of the noise.

The staff at the hotel are great. They work very hard and are always polite and helpful.

The pool area is lovely but we preferred using the beach. The sun loungers around the pool are too close together and there are not sufficient umbrellas for a couple to have one between two. Whilst we understand the need to accommodate as many people as possible it didn't really allow you to have some space. There is a sign with the rules for using the pool but the staff, apart from one, didn't ensure that the rules were adhered to. Lots of children, and some adults, dived into the pool even though the water was shallow. It was amazing that we did not witness any accidents. Towards the end of our holiday there was an increase in the number of inflatables in the pool - according to the sign these were not permitted! In addition to this we only observed the pool being 'swept' once and it was a little disconcerting to see the maintenance team shock dosing the pool with sodium hypochlorite one day as the outlet grids had become blocked due to lack of regular cleaning. Because of these isuues we chose to use the beach area which we found more spacious and relaxing.

As stated we enjoyed our holiday and would return in spite of any negative comments about the pool area. Thank you to all the staff who made our holiday a good one.

We stayed here for a week beginning 14th August and we were not disappointed. We booked through On The Beach and got a great deal for B&B.
We travelled with our 2 boys (5 and 2). Although the streets are not really built for push chairs, (lots of steps outside the hotel and very narrow footpaths) the staff at the hotel were very friendly towards the children and couldn't be more helpful.

Breakfast was fantastic, everything you could possibly want (except porridge, which my hubby has every morning), this was not a problem as we bought the sachets at the supermarket and they brought us hot milk for it. We never had to wait for a table at breakfast, always plenty spare at 0900-1000. Tea/coffee was always served to your table.

The rooms were great we had 2 double beds, perfect for what we needed. The room was lovely and quiet with a great balcony overlooking the gardens below. The bed linen was changed everyday and there were always more towels than we needed. The sheets were beautiful, lovely and silky, and the pillows were almost more comfortable that our ones at home, lol.

The pool was on our floor (10) but we only had a look, we were never in it. Looked quite busy during the day, we preferred the beach.

The beach was the best bit of the holiday for us. The hotel has it's own part sectioned off, with loungers with lovely thick mattresses so they are dead comfy. We came down about 10am every morning and could always get 4 at the waters edge. They give you beach towels as well so there really is no need to bring your own. We brought ours but took them home again unused. Could have saved precious room in the case :-) The only gripe with the beach would be that you can't bring food down to it. I tried to bring a take away pizza slice down and was told to eat it on the footpath. But we were able to bring our own drinks and fruit and things which was great for the boys. They just didn't want to leave the beach at all, lol.

We had a fantastic holiday, the restaurants near the hotel are beautiful, i will review them separately. Some of our favourite friendly places were Hugo's, Rocco's, Parapett and Meet the Argentinean Steak house.

Stayed at this hotel through Diamond Resorts for the 4th time and again was not disappointed. The last review that I submitted, I commented that the poolside furniture was in poor repair, and I was really pleased to see that all of the loungers had been replaced. Well done to the management. We visited one of the hotels restaurants for the International cuisine evening which was amazing. The area is on the ascendancy with new bars and restaurants springing up in what is already a very lively area. I look forward to my next visit.

We visited the hotel in August 2012 and were extremely happy with the hotel and services. Our bedroom was wonderful; comfortable double-bed, big bathroom (with both shower and bath tub). The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was AMAZING. The hotel was near the party-central of St.Julians and excellent if thats what you are looking for. However, I would not recommend it for older couples seeking a quiet romantic holiday.
The only downside of the hotel was the small crowded pool.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it!

We stayed at a club room, and it was fantastic.
The services were excellent including bed making, bagage claims, meals, etc.
The only disappointing point was noise from upstairs.
Our guest room was on the 14th floor where was the exact down stair of the club intercontinental lounge.
Every morning during our stay, we had a noise from the upstairs when the guest or staff moved tables and chairs in the balcony even when it was early monrning at 6am, and it woke us up.
However, overall it was very nice stay and we were satisfied very much.
