“Radison Blu Resort St Julians”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2013

Travelled in April and the weather was perfect. Not a cloud in the sky for 7 days. Hotel was clean and staff very friendly, drinks a bit pricey. Food was good. It is quite a trek to go into St Julians by foot. We went to Valetta for the day and that was really great. We also took the organised tour to Gozo which was a long day on and off the bus but at least we got to see a lot more of the island than if we had gone on our steam. Part of the package was lunch at the Seashells restaurant which was really awful and the free wine was worse than vinegar but we were glad we visited Gozo. We also did the half day trip to the blue grotto which was lovely although the fishing village it stopped at on the way back was not that exciting although we got the cheapest coffee ever there for only 65c. Glad we stayed at the Radison Blu as it was further away from the noise and overlooking the sea, Malta is a fantastic place, the people were really lovely but it is very built up and the traffic was madness. So at least when you are back at the hotel all is quiet.

I have recently returned from a six day break staying at The Radisson Blu with my wife and 8 year old child. We normally spend more time away from a hotel on our holidays but couldn't fault the facilities and attitude of all the staff, especially Eddie in the main restaurant and the guys in the children's activity area. Some of the drinks were on the expensive side but was made up by the happy hour at the pool and the later one in the Bridge bar. The only thing that upset us was a wedding party arriving on our last two days and taking over the majority of the pool and drinking bottles in the pool and generally annoying everyone and some of the lifts not working properly. The breakfasts were fantastic and buffet evening meal was very filling. Excellent room and modern bathroom with great view over the pool and towards the sea. Would return without the drunken impolite folk from Manchester.

Room Tip: Ask for the updated rooms overlooking the pool.

We spend there a nice Vacation Week in Malta and can recommend this good and modern Class Radisson Blu Hotel to others. When we made booking, we did not expect anything special, but during the time in the Hotel, we really saw, that they doing there a very friendly Service to the Guests. also the Food - Breakfast Buffet and Dinner - was fresh and nice decorated. Swimmingpool was very clean there. We had a Standard Room and we found that it was in a good average and top clean.

Recently stayed for 2 nights and loved it. We had our young boy of 2 with us and there was plenty to keep him entertained (different pools, small park, pencils etc provided at dinner). Our request for a high room was kindly meet and staff were generally super friendly and professional. St julians is a great base to see the island if you hire a car. Minor gripes would be that whilst the room to room noise isolation is excellent the patio doors are rubbish for blocking out sound from the bars (which had events both nights we were there). Also, having to pay for parking within the hotel property is plain greedy, esp. as it's only €3 a day so the hotel can't event be much money from it. Breakfast however was brilliant - a real feast to start ones day. But the single serving station makes no sense as it can get chaotic at times.

I have no idea how this is classed 5 star or charges the prices they do... Rooms big but not much in them and beds nothing special - twin room was 2 singles. Next doors balcony drained through ours so when the maid cleaned next door a river of dirt ran through our balcony! Gym big but old equipment, everything in general a bit dated. Bar massively over priced.

If you stay in this hotel be prepared not to sleep! 4 of our 7 nights we were kept awake by noise from the Edge restaurant where 2 corporate events & 2 weddings played loud music which finished between 1.30AM - 3AM. First day, sat in The Bridge to eat and were drowned out by drilling and staff carried on oblivious!! tired and a 3/4 star quality, definitely not 5 - our room door did not lock properly(623) reported immediately and nothing done! Took 2 days for 'fix' to the door, (bending the lock!) Do visit The Avenue restaurant - best place to eat by miles and very reasonable prices, a 5 star restaurant! Use taxi 179 from hotel (Dione) very knowledgeable and friendlyon where to go/eat etc. malta sightseeing hop on/off worth the money. Bed very comfortable but lifts erratic often not working. Beware the minibar charges to room without being used - charged me approx 80 euros!! Buy water on corner of Bay Street - 80c for 330ml, roomcharge is 5 euros! Poor review as 5 star price for 3/4star quality.Hotel appears to place more importance on corporate hospitality over guest comfort. I would not stay again at a Radisson - Marriott/Hilton 4 stars offer far better quality/guest comfort.

Room Tip: don't have room over side car park as you can hear the music noise from Edge at night and also v...

Overall not a bad place to have a weeks stay, a good location, a short walk to visit the busy bars and restaurants around the bay, nice variety of food and cheap drinks! A bus stop closets buy which is also very handy for trips out.

Food and drink in the hotel is a little pricey for what it is. The happy hour is on a strict time, I had to que at the bar and when it was my turn to be served the clock on the til had gone past the allotted time for my 'cheaper' local drinks.

The Baypoint man by the restaurant is very annoying trying to sell time shares! Very pushy and rude.

In the hotel the gym equipment is quite worn and in need of some replacements. Not sure on the frequency of lift maintenance, one lift dropped very quickly and we actually got stuck in another of the lifts on the way back from the pool. My daughter would only then use the stairs up and down to the 7th floor. I would have expected some form of recompense for the inconvenience but none was offered. The salt water pool had lots of tiles missing from the bottom, when it got windy the umbrellas were put down for 'safety' this then left you exposed to the sun.

Room Tip: a room overlooking the pool area is nice, try and get a lower room to avoid using the lifts!
