“Loved our stay!”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

Stayed 10 days at the RB w/husband & 17 yr old son from the U.S. A return visit for me after 35 years (native Maltese) and a first for my husband & son. The entire hotel staff were some of the kindest, most pleasant people we have encountered during travel. Restaurant wait staff work very hard and are SO polite. All staff went out of their way to assist you. After first night, we requested a change in our room due to room proximity to front of hotel and morning noise level. Room was changed w/o hesitation. If you want privacy in the form of a separate BR, request an exec suite, which is also a larger accommodation. Also, sea view is a must! Property is lovely, excellent pool w/swim up bar (and I am a pool lover), plenty of chaise lounges, nice garden walk along Med. Sea. with access at end of walk to swim in Med. Sea, which my son & I did. Breakfast bar is well worth inclusion. Hotel location is far enough away from chaos in Paceville, but still within exercise walking distance, which you'll need after all the eating you'll do. Tip: Nearby restaurants a bit pricey, so plan accordingly to get to Sliema for more dinner options. Outdoor restaurant on hotel grounds most affordable. Only drawback was no electrical outlet in bathroom for hair dryer & tricky shower stall in order to keep water in tub??? Special shout out to Dorianne, Aaron & Jesmond & the concierge staff! We miss Malta very much!

Room Tip: Request front sea view, exec suite worth the extra $$$.

Had a trouble free stay at the Radisson Blu in St. Julians. If 5 star is best you can get, it might not be 5 - but 4,5. Its a short walk from "downtown" St. Julians - but for us it was a nice walk in the evening after eating. And you'll escape the bar noise from St. Julians. It has different areas where you can relax in the sun, and 3 pools. One fresh water and two salt water. There is a restaurant close to the salt water pools where you can get food and drinks. Our room was clean and nothing to put the finger at. Had a room with large terrace and jacuzzi.
Had an inquire about prices at the the buffet, and the manager sorted things out within minutes. Thats how it should be!
The buffet breakfast is HUGE, you wont leave hungry. The buffet dinner the same, many things to choose from - and too many desserts ;-) had to taste them all.....
If you have a car, you can get a cheaper parking ticket from the front desk - that wasnt mentioned to us, but we found it out accidentially. Tip to others.
Only trouble was noisy A/C - had to turn it of during night. Didnt bring it up, cause we didnt want to have to change room.

Room Tip: Some room facing neighbor hotel can get noise when they have outdoor wedding or other parties there...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for staying at the Radisson Blu Resort St. Julian's. It is great to learn that your stay was comfortable and you enjoyed the food in particular the sinful desserts. We will certainly be sharing your comments with our pastry chefs who indeed do a marvellous job. May we look forward to repeating the same level of service on your next visit.

We returned to Malta after an absence of almost 18 years!!! There was no Raddison Blu then ! This hotel was opened in1997 .our children had arranged our stay and we were in a beautiful suite with 2 large balconies that gave us an I obstructed view of the blue Mediterranean Sea . The ocean front hotel has rooms where the ocean views can be seen from nearly all rooms not just suites . Our suite gave us the views of the Dragonara Casino and hotel
The hotel s a beautiful swimming pool and children's pool and the terraced areas have open air eating places like 'the Bistro ' which has a varied menu which is very reasonable and the food prepared is very fresh good portions good flavours and well presented
The service is always with a smile and the staff is very helpful and always helpful
We stayed there for 6 days . Breakfast was very good and a lot of variety American, English, and a few Maltese specialities like the famous pas tizzy which in English is called cheese cakes but its a savory snack with ricotta cheese filled in a FILO +hot water pastry combo, the overall result?? Unique and once hooked one can't stop!!
As it was to celebrate my birthday this trip to Malta was very special and the staff I know did a lot that the kids asked them few surprises! The best was a fabulous chocolate fudge cake that the chef had made out of this world it was exquisite!
The restaurants too of the hotel had great menus and the bar too was well stocked
We plan a trip next year and will surely stay there again
Our special thanks to a staff named Marika and Dorianne at the front desk. Dorianne was very helpful to the children for arranging those special moments! Marika helped me to locate the telephone number of an old friend . Thanks to both of them.Young Conrad was equally helpful .

Room Tip: If you like to sunbathe in the privacy of your room opt for room number 450

Just spent a lovely 8 nights here in a Junior Suite on the 5th floor. The staff were all so friendly and extremely helpful, especially Julie our chambermaid, Ray the Radisson's taxi driver and all the concierge staff. The other notably friendly people were the girls serving in the Bridge Bar area. The views from our huge, private terrace were gorgeous, the only drawback being the unusual bathroom situation!! It didn't bother us, but you'd have to be on extremely comfortable terms with your partner, due to the fact the bathroom/toilet was open to the bedroom with no privacy! However, we understand that issue is being rectified!! It is an easy walk downhill into the main St Julian's Bay where the atmosphere is buzzing. The walk back, uphill in parts, was no problem but you would need to be quite fit due to the heat in Summer, approximately a not fast half an hour! However it is a short car journey if required. Altogether a lovely hotel and very relaxing.

Room Tip: The large terrace of the Junior Suites was a huge bonus

Me and my boyfriend have just arrived back from a 5 night break in the Radisson Blu in St.Julians and we both loved our stay at this hotel! it was our first time to ever visit malta but we quickly blended In with the surroundings! Being a sea side resort makes this hotel prefect for relaxing.! A taxi from the airport to the hotel only costs 20 euro which Is a set fee! We did not venture out to far from from the hotel itself as we did not feel it was necessary! We ate mostly within the hotel in the edge restaurant and also the bridge restaurant within the hotel which both had fabulous food and even better service. The hotel prides itself in being a very friendly hotel and I can honestly say this came across every single day as the staff were so friendly and attentive they are a credit to the hotel. In particular a special mention has to go to the lovely Mario who looked after us for lunch he was so friendly! i would also like to mention Eddie who kindly remembered us at breakfast each morning and brought me and my boyfriend our crepes and looked after us!!! thank you so much to you both for being such gentlemen and making our stay so enjoyable you are an asset to the hotel! The pool side bar is so beautiful and we enjoyed being able to sip cocktails and listen to the waves crashing while sunbathing! Our room was standard and clean however it could do with being a bit more up to date as the water pressure in our room was quite poor in the shower/sink taps and also the wifi connection in our room kept cutting out frequently and the tv could be a bit more modern but these are all minute things that barely affected our stay its just to bring it to the hotels attention more than anything. So if your thinking of booking this hotel and are hesitating... I say go for it! Be sure to book a room with a sea view / balcony where possible as its beautiful to wake up too!! Amazing staff, food and drink at a relaxing ocean side location! Thanks to all the staff for a lovely holiday and we hope to be back to the hotel again in the near future.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a balcony so you get a pool/sea view :)

We stayed for one week half board and paid extra for a "de lux" room with a sea view. We had previously notified the hotel that we would be arriving late (about 23.00). There was no one to take our bags from the car to reception, although we were asked if we needed help to get them to the room (which we didn't need). A bottle of wine and small box of chocolates had been left in the room. We had missed the dinner we had paid for, but we were not offered any food - and as we were tired we didn't bother asking for anything (should you need to ask in a 5 star hotel - other hotels we have stayed in have either offered something from room service or left a cold buffet).

We were very under impressed by the room, which was very old and tired. There were water stains on the floor outside of the bathroom. The TV was archaic and set in an enormous wooden chest which contained the mini bar (you cannot put anything you purchase in this and if you take anything out you have bought it!!). However we were tired, the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The bathroom had been modernised but there was no razor socket in there and no hook to hang a bathrobe. Part of the beading around the glass in the bathroom door was missing and the beading on one side was loose and we kept pushing it back - this was obvious and should have been picked up by the cleaning staff / maintenance and repaired.

We were awoken the next morning at 6.00 hours by the sound of metal / glass being thrown in a skip and metal service doors being opened. When we went on the balcony we had a lovely view of the sea to our right but almost directly under us (we were on the 5th floor) was a service area. This was very unattractive - the skip was open and metal was being thrown in making a lot of noise. There was no rubber curtain in front of the delivery entrance (which was open all day) so we had a view of this as well. We would have declined this room if it had not been dark when we arrived.

The breakfasts and dinners at the hotel were very good with a wide selection of food and we found all the staff in the hotel very polite and helpful.

After another 6.00 wake up by the clanging of metal we saw a member of staff and complained. We later noticed that a cover had been put on the skip and the next morning we were not woken at 6.00 . However, there was no chance of us oversleeping as the delivery lorries arrive around 7.00 and the beeping indicating they were reversing made sure we woke up. We were informed that the hotel was full and there were no spare rooms.

The room was clean and spacious and so we looked to the right from the balcony and ignored the very unattractive area below.

The hallway outside the room at times smelt of urine and there were some suspicious stains on the carpet outside of the room. The room is close to a function room and possibly someone had not found the toilet in time. The cleaning staff had attempted to clean the carpet but possibly because of the heat at times the smell remained.

There are a number of swimming pools at the hotel and if the sea is calm you can also swim from a jetty. We tended to go to the hotel's lido which is an attractive area with salt water pools. There are plenty of comfortable sun beds and umbrellas and a café area where they serve drinks and meals and also hold functions - weddings, etc. The hotel seemed to hold a number conferences, weddings, every day. Unfortunately there is only one male and one female toilet in that area and there was usually a queue for these, particularly if there was a function or wedding being held. Although the tiles in the toilets are non slip they do get very slippery when they are wet. The toilets are used by people changing out of wet swimwear and the floor quickly gets wet. I saw one child who was barefoot slip down with quite a bump,

On one occasion, following a function in the lido bar the previous evening, we noticed a strong smell of urine coming from the garden area when we were sat having a drink.

We chose the Radisson because we had been pleased with the standards in other Radisson hotels we had stayed in, but this hotel was not up to the standard we had seen before. We were informed that the hotel is due to be refurbished - not before time.

We were asked for our views by a manager when we left the hotel and we were given a very small reduction from our bill.

However, the above is no reflection on our visit to Malta - which we enjoyed very much. There is lots to do and see. We particularly enjoyed visits to Medina and Valetta and we hope to return to see more of the island.

Room Tip: Check that you will not be directly overlooking the service entrance. The hotel holds a number of...

I spent a week at this hotel very recently. Overall I enjoyed the stay and after initial reservations the hotel and the gardens did grow on me. I would say the hotel is more of a 3+ star hotel, rather than anything higher.

The room

I was travelling with a friend who had booked the "Family" room. On entry we found out there was only the one bed and the secondary "divan" bed advertised on the web site was not there. It appeared that this "divan" bed was actually going to be the sad looking bed settee in the corridor outside our door that the hotel would put into the room "If we were going to use it"!

The room itself was very large, but I would say fairly tired looking. The furniture and TV were dated. There was cracked paint on the ceiling and the door seemed to have suffered the ravages of time, as it was discoloured and seemed to have fingerprint and suntan lotion marks on it. In addition, the top of the trouser press was rather dirty. Apart from these points, the room was generally clean, though I would hope that a room refurbishment must surely be just around the corner!

In the room, there were patio doors opening onto a very large corner balcony. There was a small table and only 2 chairs on the balcony - Fortunately the room had not been booked by a family!. The balcony overlooked the car-park at the front of the hotel, though you could see the sea to the right if you stood at the edge of the balcony. The bathroom was relatively small, though it had evidently been recently tastefully refurbished. However there was no shaving point in the bathroom, which was a bit of a let-down considering how nice the bathroom otherwise was.

Complimentary water in the room only appeared on our last day, the alternative was to either buy expensive bottles from the mini-bar, or go to a local shop.

Facilities

Swimming Pool - There are various pools, including a small indoor pool. However, the pool I used was the main pool outside with the sunken bar. I swam here several times and largely enjoyed it, even though I grazed my knee and cheek (Face!). The pool has a rough bottom to it and instead of going from shallow to deep water length-ways, it goes shallow to deep sideaways - This caught me out a couple of times.

Gardens - The gardens are very pleasant and extensive. There are a couple of other pools, a small restaurant and many sunbeds that scattered around the gardens - a great place to top up your tan and still get a degree of privacy. There is also a set of ladders on the rocks allowing you to jump into that lovely warm clear med and climb back out again.

Dining - Lunchtime - One of the days I ordered a snack from my sunbed. It was a Chicken Burger with chips & onion rings, with a pint of Cider. The cider was great in the heat, however, the meal was cold. The waiter took the meal away & returned it, with overcooked refried onion rings. The meal was still cold, but consumed!... but the Chicken Burger was of a poor quality and I would never order one again.

Dining - Breakfast - On the whole, the breakfast was actually very good. There was a good selection of cooked items, such as British style sausages, Bacon, Eggs, Mushrooms (...I'll get back to these later).. and many cold meats and nice breads. To sit outside and enjoy breakfast overlooking the pool was fantastic..... However.. whilst getting stuck into my breakfast on the first morning I did discover a pubic hair in my mushrooms.. I have never had this in any hotel I have stayed in before. After that first breakfast I was always a bit apprehensive about what I might discover in my food, and never touched the mushrooms again!. When the waitress came to take my plate away, I did point out the offending article and she said she would advise the Manager.

Staff - All the staff were very pleasant, from the check-in staff, to the concierge who went over the map with me and to the waiting staff. Anytime you passed the staff in the garden they would always say good morning or good afternoon.

Location - The hotel itself is not actually at St Julians, but at St Georges Bay and is on the peripheral of the local activity. If you want to get out and about you have a bit of a walk, in what can be very high temperatures. Also, many of the local bars did appear to be relatively expensive. I walked to Valletta one afternoon (a considerable walk) and the bars did appear to get progressively cheaper. However, drinks with meals in some of the restaurants around St Julians could be very reasonable (as could be the meals themselves).

Overall;-

Would I go back - Yes
Would I eat breakfast there - Yes (but not the mushrooms)
Would I order food from the outside restaurant - No
Would I recommend it - Yes, but not as a 3+ star - Not higher
