The Westin Dragonara Resort, Malta
Ranked #4 of 33 Hotels in Saint Julian's
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 27, 2013

Mid-market four stars and another mediocre Starwood performance. Reasonably pleasant lobby lounge and well-sized guest rooms mostly with sea views and balconies. However, generally the hotel is in desperate need of extensive renovation for which closure for several seasons would be required. To bring this hotel up to top four or five star standards substantial money has to be spent not least to engage a decent interior designer. Housekeeping is generally weak and even on the Executive Floors there appears to be no night turndown service, and toiletries are simply cheap, both underscoring the hotel's lower four star ranking. Maintenance is appalling and ill-functioning lifts a major inconvenience. The Executive Lounge is dowdy, outdated, and best described as a "dump; it is no place for executives. On the plus side mattresses, pillows, and bedding are comfortable. The hotel's fish restaurant is excellent (book in advance) and the Italian acceptable; neither is overpriced. Keep your expectations of this establishment modest and you will only be moderately disappointed. With a new owner, a new operator, and a transformational revamping, this hotel could realise the potential of its prime seafront location. Four Seasons take a look; owners get out your wallets. Management prepare for retirement. One minor aside that characterises the appalling taste of the bedrooms are the most ghastly rubbish bins which resemble those in a state-run hospital.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a sea view.

I stayed at the Hotel for 1 week (16-23 March 2013) with my best friend for a spring break and unfortunately I had to return home due to a family serious illness.

The Hotel did everything in their power to make my return home as quick and painless as possible. The also repaid my room charges for the days I could not stay with them. You can't say fairer than that.

Overall friendliness of staff and great customer service made my experience in difficult circumstances one that I shall remember and ensured that next time I am in Malta I will stay with them again. First Class customer service and great experience all round.

This large property is just outside St. Julian's and is an easy walk into the pretty tacky town. There are several pools, catering to adults and to families and the service is excellent. We stayed in two rooms, ocean view. Malta is a really interesting place and the Westin is definitely a high 4 star choice. A very good spa is also on offer with good exercise equipment available.

We have just returned home from a fourteen night stay and would have loved to stay longer. the food was great the staff were alway friendly and genuine ( Ramon, Tony & John in the lobby Bar were great Guys) the Breakfast buffet was one of the best we have had anywhere and Edmund on the piano of an evening was well worth sitting and enjoying. we hope to come back asap.
Every member of staff was friendly and would go out of their way to help the setting and attention to detail make this place one we will return to, The food and service at Quadro restaurant was exellent ( make a reservation I forgot on our last night and it was full and unable to fit us in but that is a good reason to come back as we want to eat here again) and Palio's though not as fine dining as Quadro was very good food and exellent service well worth trying. overall one of the best holidays we have had. Thanks again Ramon the Cosmo's and Bushmills were Great

just returned from a five night stay here and really cant find anything negative to say about the hotel, great pool area, very good buffet breakfast, the staff are genuinely very friendly (Allwyn at the pool bar being memorable ) and the rooms very comfortable and clean. the view over the sea is very nice too and if you stay in the westin bay suites the sea is literally 10 metres away and its very nice to hear the sound of the sea lapping away. Indoor pool very good and although I am not a gym expert the gym was a proper gym not just a room with a few weights.. if I was to be really picky then the only negative might be the finishing in the room, the builders obviously didnt have a spirit level!! plugs were a bit wonky etc put that is being a little bit picky.

Dear JONMCINERN,

Thank you for sharing your experience at the resort with fellow travellers.

We are delighted to note that you have enjoyed your five night stay at the resort and we thank you for your recommendation.

The Luxury Baysuites are indeed metres away from the Mediterranean Sea and enjoy a kitchenette and living area. Your notes regarding the finishing of the room have been well noted and shared with the team. Allow us to thank you for mentioning Allwyn for his service; he is indeed a professional in his work.

We look forward to welcome you back to the resort for another break in the future.

We stayed for five nights and couldn't have been more impressed. Immaculately clean and comfortable and without doubt the most comfortable bed I have ever had in a hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful, even allowing us to check in more than five hours early. We had a minor problem with the WIFI connection in the room which was dealt with immediately. Well located for the bars and restaurants of St Julian, easy walking distance to the bus stop for Valetta and if you fancy a tourist bus trip, the bus stops right outside the hotel and is superb value. We loved everything about the hotel and the area. A great place for a short break.

Room Tip: We stayed in a suite, it was pricey but superb for a treat
