Good Experience overall. Recommended for families.
Stayed in this hotel for a week in August of 2011, booked as a package through Liberty Travel. The hotel is located on a small peninsula and has a "wrap around" beach area with several inlets, rocky outcroppings and multiple places to swim in the sea - including a tiny sandy beach. Hotel has also 2 outside pools (the bigger one - "reef pool" - is a little further away and somewhat hidden from the hotel and is targeted at families), and an inside pool that was class for renovations during our stay there.
Hotel restaurants are nice but pricey in comparison to the choices in town.
There are 2-3 of them overlooking the beach, ranging from very causal to "upscale".
Rooms are O.K. - standard American style hotel rooms with a small balcony.
Hotel seems to be clean, most facilities and devices were in good working order. The hotel Business center was helpful and not expensive to use.
The Caveats: Price of food at hotel outlets. Center area of St. Julians (5 minutes away from hotel) a little seedy for families with small children.

The hotel was great. We stayed for a week and enjoyed the room and the Breakfast. The only negative is the evening buffet. We tried the Italian one and it was not very good at all. For example fried whitebait that had all got stuck together in a stodgy (not crispy at all) mess.
The organisation and helpfulness of the staff was pretty good throughout.

Stayed there for three nights and was absolutely satisfied. Good room with great view in 6th floor. Amazing breakfast, nice bars and pool. Possibility to swim in Mediterranean Sea. Perfect location, just few streets from nonstopping paceville, but really quiet in the hotel

Room tip: Luxury room on 6th or 7th floor with view in to sea

We have always had an interest in Malta, and finally we had the chance to visit this past August. Upon reviewing TripAdvisor's comments and performing our own checks for hotels, we decided upon the Westin. Many reviewers suggested arrainging for a private transfer from the airport, and we did just that, cost 40 Euro return - we were on our way with our driver upon exiting the arrivals terminal.....a big plus! This hotel is rated a 5 star, and it's little wonder why. The decor in the main entrance is of 5 star quality, the marble floors highly polished, upscale furniture that invites one to lounge. The Concerige immediatley ushered us in, and directed us to the front desk where we were welcomed, checked-in and were informed of all the hotel amenities. While our room wasn't ready, we were offered a drink of our choice while we waited, so I tried the local Maltese soft drink, Kinnie. It was more citrusy than that of a Coke or Pepsi served with an orange, and was quite refreshing. After about 10 minutes, our room was ready and we headed upstairs to the Executive floor, 8th level. We opted for an Executive Suite as we were staying for 8 nights, and enjoy the extra room....this room was essentially 2 rooms put together and beautiful. A huge bathroom, 2 closets, King bed, 2 balconys, 2 flat screen tvs, a sitting area and dining area. The view was of the interior of the hotel, facing out to the main pool and Sea. Breathtaking! Full mini bar and in-room electronic safe, slippers and 2 terry-cloth bathrobes completed the necessities!

As a bonus of staying on the Executive floor, the Executive Lounge offered a complimentary breakfast between 7-10:30am. This was a fully cooked buffett with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, etc., fresh fruit segmants, yoghurt, rolls/bread/toast, cheeses, pastries and tea/coffee brought to your table by one of 2 attendants (either inside or outside on the patio overlooking the sea). In the evening, between 6-8pm, you can enjoy canapes and finger foods with a complimentary bar. Wine, beer, spirits of all types plus ice, mix and lemon/lime wedges were on a "self-serve" basis ~ no-one seemed to be getting greedy with the open bar, and everyone was respectful towards one-another!

The hotel grounds were immaculate, the 2 pools were spotless, and both offered a regular "no pressure" wait service who would deliver your drink/meal to you at poolside. Pool towels are on a card system, and can be picked up as you leave the hotel to get to the pool. We used the gym many times, it was fairly busy due to the time used, but very well equipped - 8 treadmills, and full compliment of weight training, cycles, medicine balls, etc., with staff available for help if needed.

The hotel has 3 restaurants + a lobby restaurant and we ate at all 3. Paulio's has exceptional views, is rather casual and has a simple menu geared towards families (burgers, pizza). The Terrace Grill offered a full buffett style, and had a different themed night each evening ~ BBQ night, Healthy night, Asian, Italian, etc., all with made to order stations or in warming trays.Quadros was the hotels fine dining, situated above Paulio's and offered better views of the sea - ate here twice and loved it both times. The lobby restaurant is on the main floor and you can sit outside on the terrace and enjoy a drink or meal at you leisure, on a smaller menu. Strange thing, I typically ordered a Cisk, a local brew, and each restaurant would charge me a different price for a pint, ranging from 6.50 to 8.00 Euro.???????

The location of the hotel is an envious position, as it's on its own peninsula and shares the location with the main Casino on Malta, just a 5 minute walk away. One direction will take you to the Paceville area, full of restaurants and nightclubs, the other way towards the Promenade by Spinola Bay, great for an evening walk, shops or enjoy another restaurant on the waterfront. Watch out for the drivers, and ALWAYS cross the street at a zebra crossing- the safest way!

Overall, all the staff were exceptional and we didn't encounter any problems with anyone or anything. A greeting of "good morning" or "good evening" was always delivered with a smile and a genuine feeling of being welcome. Overly helpful Conceirge will set you up with anything you feel like doing for the day, and offer many ideas for the lesser travelled areas of the Island.

TIPS:
1) Pre-book a transfer from the airport, it'll save you time so you can enjoy YOUR holiday.
2) Beer in the mini-bar is a cheap 3 Euro/bottle - a good price if you really need one!
3) When shopping in Paceville prices vary considerably for essentials such as booze and water, so take that extra 10 feet to check the price in the store next door.
4) Best way to see the sights is to go on the Malta sightseeing bus, Hop on Hop off. 15 Euro per/ it offers 2 routes, North and South. Most cost effective to travel the island, is a double decker bus with an open top (so you can get that tan!)- driver offers water/pop for 1Euro per.
5) The Executive level was worth it. Compimentary breakfast, free drinks in the evening, plus free use of lounge for TV, Internet and computer/printing. The cost of the upgrade for the Executive may be equal to you paying for breakfast each day.

Loved Malta and the Westin ~ only suggestion would be to create an Adults-only pool area as some kids can scream REALLY loud, and their parents don't seem to care.

Room tip: Check the hotel's website directly - it offers different deals, and call them direct.

Me and my husband have just returned from a 1 week stay at the dragonara ! Overall it is a beautiful hotel, staff are friendly and helpful, the location is perfect, the sunbathing areas are out of thus world perfect to relax and enjoy beautiful views out to the med ! On the down side there are a few points that we feel are important to take into consideration ! 1. Pool side and hotel drink prices are so expensive example two bottles of coke £9 euros ! I think the majority felt a bit ripped off by this and it didn't take long to notice that others and ourselves walked round to the local supermarket and stocked up on our own stuff ! It's not about not being able to afford it but good god we paid enough to stay there without being ripped off any more ! Our room was classed as deluxe ! Well our room had a really dirty carpet and there was mould around the bathroom ceiling ! The pools on the plus side are lovely and like I said earlier location is fantastic ! We did feel though that their attention to detail was directed more towards conferences which made u feel a bit annoyed ! I don't want to feel like I'm running the place down because overall and in comparison it was a fantastic holiday and can't wait to go back to Malta but not sure if we would consider staying at the dragonara again !
