“Perfect in Every way!”
Reviewed December 2, 2007

After staying in wonderful hotels but experiencing awful service in them, I almost concluded that perfection was not possible. Well, now I couldn't think any differently! The service was 100% flawless throughout our entire stay. Every single member of staff I encountered there from start to end was just a joy to deal with, and they all contributed to the wonderful stay I had.

In addition to the service, the hotel facilities were first class. I thoroughly enjoyed the spa, pools and the gym. Very professional and well thought out with a sufficient number of staff to make the lives of the guests more comfortable.

The breakfast was SUPERB, definitely the best buffet food I've ever had the pleasure to try. A wide variety of all the different kinds of food you can imagine, all very fresh, good quality and tasty, not to mention the excellent service that came with it.
Immaculately kept gardens, clean pleasant rooms and all the little things that made a big difference made for the most pleasant experience. I would certainly return when I have the chance, and I would highly recommend this hotel over any other.

Another excellent Hilton hotel! We arrived from the Frankfurt Hilton and were delighted when we entered the room in Malta to see palm trees, the med and illuminated swimming pools through the gardens. We had booked an executive room and even though it was a little dated it was spacious, comfortable and offered a king sized bed that was extremely comfortable. The facilities at the hotel are first class and the setting is great. We booked a sea view room and were given exactly that. There were no offered extras as some reviewers have stated but we received value for money and had a great time. The executive room gave us access to the Executive Lounge and this was worth the extra money. We didn't use it for breakfast as the main restaurant with a table by the pools suited us better for a relaxed coffee and omelettes. Afteroon tea was something and nothing in the Executive Lounge (unless you like sweet cakes) but the drinks and canapes between 6pm and 7pm were plentiful and of good quality. The majority of the staff were very helpful, the only exception we came across being one girl at the breakfast check in desk who needed a course at charm school. Malta itself is great, not pretty but certainly charming! The buses are a legend, a pity they will vanish once Europe gets its claws into Malta. We had many meals out, one of the most memorable being the swordfish at Barracuda but Terrazo, just down the hill and along the waterfront served superb duck and also tasty red snapper! For cheap and cheerful good food and wine try Raffaels (just down the hill and the steps to the waterfront), sit on their terrace and admire the marina with good pasta, pizza or burgers at a very reasonable price!! I have read some reviews of other hotels (eg Adams) and find it hard to believe that more basic hotels can score higher on Tripadvisor. Would we stay at the Malta Hilton again? Certainly! It was expensive but we felt we got what we paid for and would have no hesitation in repeating our experience. This would be out of season however as in the peak season (July and August) I wouldn't want to have to fight for a sun lounger, good table for breakfast or through the massing crowds that would surely be in evidence . This could well be made worse by the extentions that are currently being built at the hotel, but time will tell!

  • Liked — Location and excellent experience overall
  • Disliked — Blue Elephant was disappointing but the response from management about our concern was first class!

After much deliberation I decided to book the Hilton Malta for out 25th wedding anniversary. The hotel was just perfect, our room looked over the marina which was so pretty. At breakfast we looked out at palm trees and blue sea.

Everyone at the Hilton was so friendly and helpful from the maid service right up. At breakfast time we were greeted with smiles and my husband thought Duncan the chef brilliant as he cooked fresh omelete for him each day.

On our first night we recieved a bottle of champers from the hotel to celebrate our anniversary.

Only down side was drinks were a bit pricy but it is worth joining the nearby Portmasao casino (just next door) were they have 50% off nights. We had a fantastic meal with wine for only 17 maltese lira. Bargain.

On the last day I treated myself to a facial at the Hilton's spa and felt very relaxed and pampered.

All in all I was so pleased to have chosen this hotel and would go back in a minute.

We have just completed a week's holiday at the Hilton Malta and despite having some poor weather during our stay, we have thoroughly enjoyed this hotel and the island of Malta. I have stayed in many Hilton hotels around the world but I can rate this one as the best ever - and this is down to how the staff treat guests. From the minute we checked in we were made to feel very welcome and special guests. On arrival, we were upgraded to an Executive Room (I'm a Gold Member so this was a nice treat as we'd only booked a standard marina view room). We also received complimentary vouchers for dinner in the Oceana Restaurant and complimentary vouchers for the Spa. What a lovely treat.

Having access to the Executive Lounge was a benefit, particularly for afternoon tea/cakes and the pre-dinner drinks (although I would agree with a previous comment that 6-7 is rather early if you have had a full day out). The Executive Lounge hostess was particularly helpful in booking restaurants and spa appointments. Although we could have taken breakfast in the Exec Lounge we chose to eat in the main Oceana restaurant each morning. Stuart (chef who cooks the eggs), is so pleasant, taking time to speak to every guest and giving advice on where to visit on the island.

The pools are beautiful and all of the hotel grounds are very well kept.

We visited Mdina (the Silent City) and La Valletta and would recommend both towns to anyone interested in the history of the island. The Hilton Malta is located in a nice area within close walking distance of some lovely restaurants around the marina and bay area. All in all - a lovely holiday which was enhanced by the friendliness of the Maltese. Thank you.

My wife and I recently stayed at the hotel for our two week honeymoon and we cannot speak highly enough of the hotel, it's facilities and most importantly it's staff.

Upon arrival at Malta airport we were very surprised (and delighted) to be met by Shawn (assistant manager) and a colleague who came with flowers for my wife and vouchers allowing complementary treatments at the Spa.

Upon arrival at the hotel were escorted straight upto the Executive lounge where we were served champagne and checked into our room. We were very fortunate to be given a suite for the first two nights (which was magnificent) after which we reverted to an executive room, which obviously wasn't as spacious but was still impressive and provided excellent views of the Marina.

The hotel leisure facilities are excellent with a choice of 4 pools all with ample sun loungers and the staff regularly pass by should you want drinks or snacks. In addition we used the gym on several occasions which was spacious and well stocked with equipment.

We ate at the hotel on many occasions during our stay and found the choice and standard of food to be of a high quality. Under usual circumstances we would avoid "buffets" at all cost however after being impressed by the breakfast offering we decided to give it a try and we're glad we did. There are different theme evenings throughout the week and I would highly recommend the "Fish" & "Barbeque" evenings. We also ate at the hotels Thai restaurant "Blue Elephant" which again I would highly recommend.

The hotel is conveniently located with many excellent restaurants situated locally, the obvious choice being in the Marina (2 mins walk) and the local bay (5 mins).

My only criticism of the hotel is that if using the executive lounge, pre-dinner cocktails are offered for just one hour between 6pm & 7pm which is quite early given that you could comfortably sit in the sunshine by the pool until 6pm during our stay.

Overall the hotel does meet its 5 star rating / standard, and the staff are very caring to ensure that you enjoy every aspect of your stay.

Stayed here for the first week of October 2007. We arrived late in the evening, booked a taxi throught the hotel which was great, and checked in with ease as there was no other people around at 11pm.

When we got to our Executive room, we were pleased with the view (929) and the room was excellent. Room was tidy, and always cleaned well throughout our stay, and the turndown service was very efficient, even replacing used towels and putting our Hilton Robes out for us!!!

Being a Diamond member, we recieved perks each day from chocolates, to bottles of wine, as well as a full buffet breakfast each morning.

The Executive lounge is very nice and comfortable, with afternoon tea served from 1530-1700 and then complimentary drinks served 1800-1900 (otherwise known as Power Hour!!!) Staff in there were very helpful and helped us sort out many things during our stay.

We spent a lot of time around the "adult" pool near where the construction is going on, mainly because it was less crowded and the construction made very little noise, but that may have been because I was engrossed in my books!! To be honest the construction did not trouble us through out our stay.

We used the Speed boat that leaves from the hotel marina to goto to comino for the day which was very good fun, it cost about £15 and gave you ample time there. If you don't like fast boats on water don't try it!!! I think I would have been board out of my brains going on one of the slower boats from Silema which are out for about 8 hours!!!

Blue Elephant

Had an excellent meal there, and the setting is also excellent, could not fault it.

Bottega del Vino

Had an Excellent meal in here, it seemed very quiet, but the food was excellent.

QuarterDeck Bar

The best bar in the hotel for me. You can sit out over looking the marina, and it is a great way to end a busy day sunbathing!!! All the cocktails are excellent (i had to try them). The onlt dissapointment was the fact that they closed the bar on our last day for a wedding reception, and we only found out after breakfast. Since it was our last night we wanted to spend it there with our complimentary drinks. The hotel saif we could use the Vista bar (with was rubbish) so this was a bit of a downer.

Vista Lounge Bar

Lacks any atmosphere, and the service we recieved in there was poor. One of the down points of the hotel. This was the only bar in the hotel avaliable since the Quarterdeck was closed for a private wedding.

On the plus side, we explained to the front office manager on the day we left how dissapointed we were that they had shut our favourite bar, and since we were checking out about 9 pm, allowed us to keep our room till then for only £30 which I thought was quite reasonable, as well as pay for our taxi to the airport and allow us to use the executive lounge till we left.

Other visits I reccommend are Midina, Crafts Village and Valetta.

Over all it was a great holiday, and the minor ish points at the end we could have done without, but we were not going to let ut ruin our holiday.

After reading the wonderful reviews on TripAdvisor about this hotel, we happily booked our holiday to Malta. Having stayed at numerous Hilton hotels worldwide, we were disappointed on many levels with Hilton Malta, namely:

1. When we arrived at the hotel with our 8 month old daughter at 11.pm not one of the hotel staff offered to help with our luggage. My husband visibly struggled with all the suitcases, whilst I carried our sleeping baby and pushchair. To add insult to injury, we were then sent to the wrong lift which did not serve our floor, so we had to get out of the lift and go to the opposite side of the building.

2. We paid an extra £ 200 for a room with a sea view. The room we got was on the ground level and had a pool view and no view of the sea at all. When we asked for a room change to have a sea view, the management argued that ' their system states it is a sea view'. After arguing for an entire hour, we were finally moved to a higher floor with a sea view; the only problem was it was a twin room and not a king bed. We were exhausted by this point (1am) we just took the room.

3. We already paid Thompson £30 prior to leaving for a late check-out until 6pm, however since we were due to leave the hotel at 9pm, we asked for it to be extended until 8pm. We were absolutely amazed that they wanted to charge us £180 for an extension of 2 hours!!!

4. On our final day, we returned back to our room at 2pm and inspite of paying for the extra time, we were locked out of our room. We then had to go to reception to re-activate our card - Why could that not have been done automatically?

5. When we went back to our room after re-activating our card, we found that our room had not been made up and all the sheets on the bed had been dumped on the floor!!! We couldn't even use our bed during the extra hours that we had paid for!

6. As we had book half-board through Thompson, we did not expect to be charged for our last meal, which is what happened! The waiter came with a bill for the entire meal; we were just expecting to pay for the water that we consumed. The waiter said that we had had all our meals. I had to explain that the night we arrived (11 pm) we did not have a meal (which of course they knew). They then accepted that it was their mistake!

Although the food was excellent, we felt that this was a Hilton hotel in name only.
