Riviera Marriott Hotel La Porte de Monaco
Ranked #1 of 8 Hotels in Cap d'Ail
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed November 16, 2013

The Marriott Riverera is a very nice hotel located on the French side of Monaco. The hotel overlooks a marina. There are several resturants within walking distance of the hotel, and the hotel resturant was actually decent albiet a little expensive. The hotel provided a shuttle to various areas in Monaco, this was great to have available. The staff at the hotel was excellent, they provided excellent service and were very helpful. The hotel is also within walking distance of the local bus stop and a small downtown area. The rooms were ok, not small but certainly not large, but they were spotless and well maintained. We had a room overlooking the marina, which was very nice, some rooms overlooked a ball field while other had a sea view.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the marina were very nice, the view also looked at to the open water.

We've enjoyed Marriott properties around the world, but of course, some are better than others. That's why, based on a few reviewers' comments, I thought this would be a nice but not great property. Au contraire. Admittedly, we stayed here in the quieter season (late October) when the hotel was less crowded, although the weather was gorgeous with warm days and wonderfully cool nights; but the staff was welcoming and helpful, the public areas pleasant, inviting and well-maintained, and our room plenty spacious, well-equipped, quiet and spotless. We had a sea-view room on the 8th floor with a private balcony overlooking the yacht harbor, with the Med just beyond. (All sea-view rooms have balconies--great place to enjoy a nightly cocktail.) The king bed was wonderfully firm and comfortable and made for 4 great nights of sleep. While we did use the hotel's shuttle one time to get to the train station for the train to Nice, we were on vacation and in no great hurry, so it was easy to walk from the hotel or alternatively take one of Monaco's easy-to-use busses to virtually anywhere in Monaco. So the Marriott made a great base from which to explore Monaco and yet be just enough removed from the hustle-bustle of the city. Since we are Marriott gold status members, the breakfast buffet was included in our tariff---and I would rate it very highly. Sure, it may not be at the level of one of the JW resorts in Asia, but for our purposes it was plentiful, full of variety and delicious. And speaking of eating and drinking, we also enjoyed a lunch and a dinner at the hotel, as well as a couple of drinks at the bar, and the food and beverages were likewise excellent and the service warm and attentive. In a word, our 4 nights at the Marriott Riviera were a treat--far exceeding our expectations. Our thanks to the whole staff for their good work. We'll look forward to returning again in the future.

Room Tip: Sea-view room, higher floor. Some floors have ice machines (thanks, Marriott, these are a welcome a...

Dear froamer,
Thank you very much for this perfect rating and your nice and detailed comments of your greatexperience with us. We are very happy to learn that you used tripadvisor rewiewers comments and that you decided to try us … and even more that we managed to go above your expectations, enjoying a very nice stay in our sea-view room, its balcony and a nightly cocktail. Besides our complimentary shuttle service to the city center, Monaco’s city-buses are indeed very convenient to travel anywhere around in town.
I shared your feedback with our housekeeping and engineering teams and they were very happy. Our Restaurant Team: Waiters and Cooks were also very happy that you liked both the food and service an the quality of the dishes.

We are looking forward to warmly welcoming you back soon

Kind regards,

The view over the marina of Cap d'Ail, the luxury of allowing a gentle sea breeze's flowing in the room during the night, then taking breakfast under the warm sunshine are all kept as the best memories of my yearly stays there.
It's "laid back", overall, the asset is - you are on a business trip and the hotel experience, it's calm atmosphere, really let you chill in the evening.
Would a sea link with the airport in Nice be a possibility?

Dear Franco D,

Thank you for your loyalty to our hotel. We are very happy that you chose us each year for your stay at the French Riviera and that you enjoy our location and relaxed atmosphere.

A sea link from the airport of Nice does not exist, but you can take the helicopter with Heliair to fly you straight from the Nice airport to Monaco’s heliport.

They have a free shuttle that will then drive you to our hotel, and you can even walk to us – its 5 minutes- if you have few luggage and prefer to take a breath of fresh air.

The flight costs about the same as a taxi fair, and it’s a unique experience. We are looking forward to warmly welcome you back next year.

Kind Regards

While this Marriott is older, the service and use of their shuttle made it a real value in a city not known for value. We utilized the free shuttle to go to the train station, picked us up at the cruise terminal and took us to the Grand Casino and came and got us after dinner. The rooms, while dated, were reasonably large and well kept.

Room Tip: Request a high floor, facing the harbor.

We stayed here before boarding a cruise. Hotel is small and located in a picturesque marina. Location is technically in France, but cross the street and you're in Monte Carlo. We ate dinner and breakfast at the lobby restaurant, both meals were excellent.

Room Tip: Rates vary, waterside is more expensive as upper floor rooms see the Med in addition to the Marina.

Nice size room with balcony view of the harbor and beautiful Mediterranean Sea. One of the best breakfast buffets which includes an omelette station. Short walk to outdoor restaurants and to pebble beach where we swam in the Mediterranean Sea. It's also a short drive to Monte Carlo Casino. We only stayed 2 nights, would loved to have stayed a week. Staff was pleasant and helpful.

Spent 3 nights here, hotel is located at one of the marinas and if you are lucky enough to get a sea-view room with a balcony (as I did) then the view is simply amazing. The room size is typical for European standards and the beds are comfortable. The bathroom is a bit outdated but other than that the room is fine. Staff are pleasant as well wiling to help with any queries. The biggest issue of this hotel are the lifts of which there are only 2 for guest use and it can get a bit crowded during peak times. There is also a complimentary hourly shuttle into Monte Carlo but this is only a one-way service. The hotel is about a 15 euro cab ride from Casino Monte Carlo or a 30-40 minute walk. The restaurant has a generous offering of items for the breakfast buffet although the lunch and dinner services are a bit overpriced. I would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a nice yt reasonably priced (by local standards) Monaco experience.

Dear Avi8or_1990,

We thank you very much for your time and great comments regarding your recent stay with us.

We were glad to see that you enjoyed the Hotel, the location, the service and facilities in our property.

Regarding the lift, it is a shame we could not inform you, because we have three elevators available. Of course in some occasion it might be more busy, we apologize for this inconvenience.

We will share your constructive comments to the Restaurant Team regarding the price of our dinner and Lunch services. Indeed we try to be an affordable opportunity versus the local restaurants, having a lunch menu at 15 EUR for a 2 dish menu and at evenings a Chef's special at 18 EUR.

Once again we really appreciate your nice rating and the fact you recommend our property for the price/value.

We are looking forward for your next visit.

Yours sincerely
