I have been to this restaurant several times this year. Each time the food and service has been excellent. The menu is frequently changed and all the food is very fresh, tasty and homemade. I would highly recommend anybody to go.

The White Bear highly recommended to us, and as always, we checked the reviews on TripAdvisor, which in all fairness were very mixed.

We arrived at our booked time to be offered one of two tables, so we choose the table near the log burner in the bar area.

We were very well looked after and the service was excellent, a superb menu available.

We had muscles in a rich and tasty sauce to start with, then duck and lamb, which came with fresh vegetables and potatoes. Followed by desert and coffee. The quality of the meal was fantastic, fresh, piping hot and plenty of. Not a single thing to complain about, would have just liked the fresh homemade bread to come after ordering the food rather than being offered with the starter.

Overall, a fantastic place to go, if I had to be picky, I'd suggest menus given at the table rather than wrote on a blackboard, you felt like you was in the way when looking and the scruffy writing didn't resemble the amazing meal. Staff seemed very nervous, when in fact they were lovely people, offered a great service and delivered excellent food.

The White Bear is a great place to go.

We will definitely be going again!

Had a really nice Sunday Lunch of roast pork followed by a superb Bakewell Tart.
This is a great restaurant with a really friendly owner and staff. We have dined here a few times now and have never been disappointed at all. Great choice on menu board and always have specials available.

This was our first visit to the white bear and our last. We’d read the good reviews and booked a table but wished we hadn’t. The more recent reviews commenting on the strange atmosphere and miserable staff are certainly more inline with our experience. The tables were squashed together and the wooden chairs hard and uncomfortable. Our table was pushed right up to a radiator so we had to eat whilst slowly cooking ourselves. There were other free tables that would have accommodated 4 people but we were instructed to sit on this particular one. The table of 2 next to us didn’t like the fact we were sitting so close to them and made their distaste known with dirty looks but they were already on their puddings as we sat down. The thing that ruined our evening was when the chief waitress or manager or whatever she was came over ‘to let us know’ that the couple that had been dining next to us had left without having coffee because they could hear every word of our conversation and didn’t like it. We’d not been loud and we’d been instructed by her to sit on this particular table, not our choice. She said she didn’t think we’d been loud but wanted to pass on what she’d been told. Why? You don’t go out and pay the prices the white bear charge to be made to feel like this.

Freindly service not cheap but good. Have limited staff so althought not busy need to book to get a table. Loveley views from the windows.
