Long long wait at check in - not a good initial experience but - great room; above average size; bed very well positioned facing the window and the sun. Excellent breakfast with all you could want. Staff were attentive cheerful, helpful and respectful at all times.
We got an excellent deal by booking in advance, direct with hotel which included parking and breakfast.

I recently stayed at this hotel on Saturday night as my partner and I were attending a birthday party in the area. The receptionist was very good and checked us in. The room was a good size coupled with the added bonus of a sofa, which was great to relax on and read the Sunday papers after breakfast. When we booked in, we asked about the gym and were given cards to access same. Unfortunately the spa bath was apparently not working, which was a bit disappointing, but these things happen. Our room was great as above but would recommend asking for a ground floor room as these come with an outdoor area with some with table and chairs, particularly nice on warm summery days and evenings. On returning to the hotel around 11pm, we decided a nightcap in the bar was required. Unfortunately, although the bar is 24 hours for residents, it is locked up at 11.30pm. Guests have to go to reception and ask for drinks. A Receptionist then has to open part of the bar, take orders, all drinks charged to your room and then serve everyone. We had a lovely lady who struggled to accommodate a fair number of people and I wonder about why the bar needed to be closed at 11.30pm on a Saturday night. Of course one would not expect staff to be there all night but at least until 1am on a Saturday night as most people like a nightcap after an evening out.

I also felt some security would be useful after 11pm as whilst we were in the bar a man came into the bar it appears to meet with resident guests and he brought in a large alaistain dog. The man was advised by a member of reception that the dog was not allowed. The man stated

Room Tip: Opt for a room on the ground floor thereby ensuring you have the additional bonus of the outside spa...

Thank you for your comments. I am glad the service you received on check in was excellent and you enjoyed our garden view room. I will definitely look into our bar opening hours and make sure we have drinks available for our guests.
I hope to welcome you back to the hotels in the future.
Best regards Mike Harrison, Director of Operations.

When you pay £115 for a room without breakfast where do the Bean Counters get off on charging £3 to park your car overnight? What a joke?
Trying to book over the phone was a nightmare, we had an Australian credit card but no UK post code, would stay in a pub next time. Staff very clinical and robotic.

Room Tip: Pick another hotel where guest parking is FREE!,!

Thank you for your valued comments regarding our recent stay. I will most definitely feedback to the reservations team the difficultly you had making your reservation and please accept my apologies for this.
The hotel has had to install a parking management system due to the hotels vicinity to a large shopping centre and offices. The system is in place to provide our guests with parking. The hotel has many rates which include parking however I will review our rates.
Best regards Mike Harrison, Director of Operations.

The Marriott is a nice hotel, a little out in the sticks but if you're this way then it's worth a look.

The first thing you will notice on arrival is that parking is £3 per 24 hours payable at reception or a pay and display machine, I would urge you to pay at reception as we were informed at check in that the parking fee is waived for weekend guests, too late for us as we'd used the machine but never mind.

The front of house is modern and inviting and check-in was friendly and efficient and we were offered use of the pool / fitness suite which we took but ended up not using. We were also informed that we had breakfast in teh morning, news to me as we'd booked room only but the receptionist confirmed it which made Expedia's low rate even better as breakfast is usually £15pp if not in the rate.

Our room was at the back of the hotel on the second floor, a strange set-up as the access to the guest rooms takes you through a reception area and bar for one of the function rooms, we almost got offered a glass of bubbly when returning to our rooms courtesy of someone elses funtion!

Anyway the rooms are large and clean if starting to look a little dated in areas but overall the room was clean and comfortable with AC and good water pressure for the shower.

Beware the bar is pricey (£6 for a glass of wine) but again the staff are good.

Breakfast is great (esp when free!), nice choice of continental and cooked items and a cook to order omlette station.

Overall a good stay.

Stayed here one night. Spacious room with a sofa and table area. Very comfortable king size bed with both GB and euro square pillows. Clean and well designed. Plenty of toiletries, towels, flannels. Glasses with an ice bucket. Usual tea coffee things.
Liked the pool and jacuzzi empty when I was there. Free towels poolside.
No where local to eat and not really expecting much from a chain we were pleased to have a very nice meal in the restaurant. Fresh asparagus with poached egg and hollandaise sauce was a lovely starter. My husband also had a special,
lamb in a cassoulet style, I opted for pasta which was tasty. Fresh strawberry panda cotta and a tart finished the meal. Along with a bottle of wine and aperitifs around £77.
Breakfast open until 11am which we like, and very good. Only gripe the obviously crispy bacon went soggy in their steamers.
And we had to pay £3 to park overnight, apparently the result of local offices using their parking. Week ends are free. I would have thought it could have been refunded to guests, but I suppose it costs to implement.
Our 2nd stay at this chain and so far no complaints.

Room Tip: Ask for a kingside to Ours was spacious, check if they all are.

Stayed here only for one night whilst attending a wedding near by. My initial impression was that the corridors and lifts were a bit dated - but that was soon forgotten, as everything about this hotel impressed me. We ordered room service sandwiches for lunch which were excellent (loads of smoked salmon filling!), and had a great breakfast the following morning. Staff were all very pleasant and check in & out efficient. The room was huge - 2 double beds for a twin room, and a balcony overlooking a well kept garden area. We didn't get chance to use the pool area, but it looked good.

Would definitely recommend, and hope to be back soon.
