“A pleasant urban retreat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2014

It is in the heart of town so easy to visit. There is a museum and large greenhouse(they call it a Winter Garden) adjacent. There is a pond with birds to feed, a children's playground, a bowling green. It is a well kept park where various events are staged. There are various areas to wander through. A good place for families.

“Marvelous Mowbray”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2014

Came across the park by accident as I didn't know anything about it. What a wonderful place.

As parks go its got the lot. Lots of interesting little nooks and crannies. Well kept grass and bits where they have let it go wild to encourage wildlife. Lots of art and sculptures dotted about. A wonderful high up view point is at the back of the park.

I like the fact it is not flat like a lot of parks. There are dips and hillocks with paths winding here and there making exploring fun. Great kids play area and an Alice in Wonderland theme sees giant chess figures (as well as a walrus and spooky door to Wonderland). I am told Lewis Carroll wrote his famous poem Jabberwocky whilst staying in the city.

The place is next to the Winter Gardens and a very smart war memorial, both worth a look while there. It also has a lake

I would say a Sunderland gem. A very pleasant green oasis to spend some time away from the city. Don't feed the birds though.

“Colourful Display”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2014

visited as the gardeners were planting hundreds of new bedding plants giving the park an abundance of colour on a very grey March day

“beautiful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2014

This is a lovely place to go for walks or chill out. It is just on the edge of the city center and is situated beside the Winter Gardens - also another great place to visit. It has a great little cafe and a museum.

“Where have the ducks gone!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2013

The park is ok but was better back in the day - where have the ducks gone? Can't go anywhere without the risk of seagulls and pigeons doing their 'business' on you.
Winter gardens are a good 'free' trip out though.
