The Marriott Sunderland is fantastic value for a trip to Sunderland for the football (or any other reason). We stayed on Easter Saturday for one night. Our room was spacious with a bit of a seaview and a large bathroom for £90, including breakfast and vat. The breakfast was as big as we wanted it to be and delicious. The location on the sea front at Seaburn is fantastic, especially if the sun is shining. The pool and leisure complex are more than adequate for a weekend away. The staff were all fantastically welcoming and charming. Well worth a visit.

This is really two reviews in one as we visited the hotel in both early and late January.
We like this hotel and have visited it on more than 20 occassions.
The rooms are of a very good size and we were lucky enough to have the same room on both visits. We took our three year old boy and the room was large, with enough room for us to form a mini football pitch at the end of the beds. As we have stayed several times, I must say that all the rooms are of a good size.
The leisure facillities I cannot comment on, however my partner and our boy visited it and they enjoyed it.
The layout of the hotel is good and everything just runs smoothly.
I think the best thing with regards the hotel is the location. The parade that the hotel sits has improved over the years and so there is now a couple of Italian restuarants, an Indian, Tapas and Chinese and a bar. There are also a few amusement arcades that are not overrun and so it is quite a nice little area and an ideal base if you wanted to stop as a family.
We have had dinner at the hotel on several occassions and it has been very good, but there is now some good choices just outside of the hotel, which gives options and makes the stay a good one.
The one gripe I have that needs addresssing is the temperature of the hotel. There is no aircon in the rooms and it is very hot. The previous January we stayed we thought it was unbearable and they arranged a fan for us, which was not what we wanted. I just think they have the heating just a couple of notches too high. You end up sleeping with just the sheets on the bed. The temperature was high on both these occasions and the previous year, so it is not a new thing.
Anyway good lay out, friendly, good base for the North East and despite the temperature I am sure we will visit again and again.

I was very pleased with this hotel. It was in a lovely location on the sea front, with free parking.

The check in was super quick no ques and was in the room within 5 minutes. The main areas of the hotel were of a high standard and had obviously been refurbished recently. Beautiful staircase up to the rooms.

The room was really nice, large size, big comfy bed, two chairs and a desk with chair. The tv was rather larger than some i've had in other marriotts which was great. Large wardrobe with plenty of hanging space, safe, iron and trouser press. Lots of drawers aswell. Hairdryer, toiletries and huge towels were great. The bathroom was very modern, spacious and sparkling clean. It looked quite new, and had a seperate shower and large bath. It looks like the hotel really has catered to peoples needs.

The leisure facilities were good aswell. Clean changing rooms, good size pool on the sea front, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. All modern and clean.

The restaurant was beautilfuly laid out for valentines day, red+ white napkins, heart shaped sweets, candle-lit, strawberrys and bucks fizz on arrival. The service was amazing, quick, profesional and the food was amazing. The 5 couse meal was outstanding i could not fault it.

Breakfast was served in the restaurant, plenty of choice and replenished quickly. Coffee arrived on table within minutes of us sitting down. Service again was great and efficient.

The only negative comment i had with this hotel was the climate control/air con in the rooms. Neither was it cool nor hot, you choose the room temperature however the air coming out never changed temp. It switched itself off at 11pm and we had to ask for a fan as our room was too hot but they did come to the room within 5 minutes and sort it.

I would deffinately return to this hotel, especially for the price we paid for a valentines break it was very reasonable.

Was staying here for work the next day, so it was a late Sunday arrival for an early Monday departure. All I can really discuss is the room itself as I didn't check out the bar or the fitness rooms.

The room was great....big, comfortable bed, big bath..separate shower.....All good

Free parking is also a huge plus.

We've just returned from a 2-day stay at the Marriott in Sunderland, and were extremely impressed with the hotel. The bedroom was very large, comfortable, spotless and well appointed. We were told that the rooms have all been redecorated in the past 6 months, and it certainly looked like it. The same applied to the restaurant, foyer area and the other public areas - very plush, comfortable and clean throughout. All of the staff we spoke to couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. Breakfast was buffet-style, with plenty of choice of hot and cold dishes. Our bedroom overlooked the car park which wasn't a problem, but it's worth asking for a sea view when booking. Overall, we would highly recommended the Marriott in Sunderland.

I have just returned from a one night stay at this hotel. The overall experience was very positive. Check in was quick and efficient, the staff seemed very professional. I had requested a sea view room when I made the booking and this is exactly what I was given, with stunning views of the coastline. The rooms are immaculate with a king size bed and luxurious bedding. The only reason I have not rated this hotel a '5' is because of the service at breakfast. We had been seated a good 10 minutes before they served us our tea and coffee. The breakfast was self service but the food was not replenished quick enough and there was always empty serving dishes, resulting in a constant queue of people waiting for the next batch to come out. Apart from the issue at breakfast, our stay was excellent and I cannot fault anything. This is a brilliant value for money hotel.

We stayed at the Marriot for only one night but if/when we are ever back in Sunderland, I will not even look for another hotel. I will just see what is the best deal I can get in quite the best value for money hotel I've seen in some time.

The staff were absolutely fantastic; nothing was any trouble, everything was done with a smile.

The room (I thought I had booked a standard double room) was almost a suite, beautifully laid out, clean and comfortable including two televisions, tea and coffee making facilities and the bright roomy bathroom had full complement of toiletries.

Our room didn't have a sea view, but we live beside the coast so that was no big deal; it was great, however, to be able to stroll along the front and watch the breakers roll in.

As I say, good location, good value. great facilities, brilliant staff; what more could anyone ask for?
