Ecellent looking hotel and the rooms were great and large. However no complimentary bottled water, which for that price per night and the level of the hotel would have thought this was standard. The breakfast juices were all watered down. the orange juice tasted like
weak cordial and extremely expensive at £ 15-95 per head! Again not very good for the standard of the hotel. However staff very friendly and helpful.

Thank you so much for posting your review following your recent stay with us at the Sunderland Marriott and for taking the time to share your opinion of our facilities. I am glad that you liked the rooms and also that you found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Complimentary water is not part of our brand standard, however, we would have been happy to provide iced water upon request. The orange juice is from concentrate but your feedback has been highlighted to the restaurant manager who will address this point with his team to ensure the correct mix ratio is being made.
Once again thank you for posting your valuable feedback.
Warmest regards

This hotel is pretty much like all Marriott hotels, room was spacious very clean etc. food was adequate not great. Had sandwich in bar - suppose see to be Wiltshire cured ham - more like pre-sliced from supermarket and bread on the dry side - all for £8,95! Breakfast is an extra £15 per person but there is a lovely little cafe about 50 yards away which does a full breakfast for £5.95 so would recommend the room only rate at the Marriott. All in all what you'd expect from a 4* hotel although the bed was very hard. otherwise no real complaints.

Many thanks for posting your review and I am very pleased to read your feedback on the room. I am sorry that the food offerings did not live up to your expectation. Our head chef has been made aware of your comments so that they can be addressed with his team. We have recently changed the presentation of our breakfast and we do offer an extensive variety of items to cater for the breakfast needs of our guests.
Once again, very many thanks for your valuable feedback.

I visited during a short business trip. First time in Sunderland (fantastic city) and first time in this hotel.

It looks to have been recently renovated and was very clean and felt very good quality. The reception is bright, well staffed and check in/out was quick and painless.

The bar area is well laid out and offers waiter service - but for little more than you pay in any local pub which is great. A small dish of nuts free of charge with a drink was a wonderful touch!

I didn't eat here, however I did walk by others eating and it looked great, although clearly I cant comment on the taste.

The room was a good size, not tiny like some! It was spotless and the room temp was good throughout the night.

One point, please, please get free wi-fi, it should be common practice in UK hotels but isn't and it adds additional cost when it shouldn't.

Breakfast was tasty, well presented and the buffet style suits me (although I usually end up eating less!) and the coffee is fresh, not instant as some hotels try and pass off!

The staff were friendly - and local! How rare in a UK hotel today.

All in all a great choice.

Nowhere near the standard of a Marriott hotel in London or most of Europe but much better than most of those I have stayed in around the UK. Staff were excellent and a real plus for the company, from reception, to the bars and restaurants. Room was comfortable and clean and well appointed. It looked out onto the beach which was a plus, but a bus stop and ever present queue right outside which was a minus. The food in the restaurant was much better than most UK Marriotts and actually pretty good. Breakfast was also excellent as were the staff in there. The bar seemed to have a problem with selling wines by the glass.
