Stayed in room 224 and was impressed by the size of the room. Equipped with a large sitting area 2 Tvs massive bed and big bathroom with separate shower. It was lovely to have a choice of pillows which were large and comfortable. Great view of the sea too. Breakfast was excellent and it was amazing to find a chef who can cook perfect poached eggs. Staff were very welcoming. Definitely worth a stay

What an enjoyable break for our family, the room was lovely and spacious with two double beds
which the children loved. The room was extremley warm which is most unusual as our previous stays in the Hilton for example were really cold.
All staff were courteous and helpful especially in the pool area.
Car park was quite small but managed to find a space as a refurbishment is happening at present
a few more vans than usual I guess parked there taking up a bit of space.
That however did not spoil our break.
Will certainly be back especially for the pool!

Room Tip: ask for a superior on top floor facing the sea no noise and lovely views

This is the 2nd time I've stayed here and my second review. Firstly everyone is so friendly and nice and the location overlooking the seafront is lovely. I would definitely stay here again.
But... The price! £118 for one night (room only) was really over the top, especially as it didn't even have aircon.
For dinner I had room service - which was a beef stew served in a rice bowl - £14 (not including the room service charge). literally as big as a clenched fist.
For breakfast I had... My own stash of cereal bars as they wanted £15 for a buffet breakfast. I had the buffet breakfast last time I was here as it was included in the room rate and it is not worth £15.
Basically if you are staying in Sunderland then stay here.. But don't eat here.. At all.

Thank you for posting your review and I am pleased to read your positive comments regarding the staff and location of the hotel. I am sorry that you found our prices expensive. They are competitive with similar establishments in the area. Once again, many thanks for taking the time to write your review and we look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel on your next visit to Sunderland.

Arriving on a somewhat blustery Friday night in early December the welcome couldn't have been warmer. The Marriott is conveniently located on Marine Parade and looks out over the sea.
Having parked the car we made our way to reception. There is ample onsite parking and entry/exit is controlled with security barriers.

Reception staff were polite, efficient and explained the hotel amenities/locations.
Our room was an executive room with sea view and can be accessed via a lift or stairs from the hotels foyer.

Room 224 overlooks Marine Parade and out to sea, traffic noise isn't an issue.
The room featured a comfortable seating area with its own large flat screen tv. ample storage, tea/coffee facilities and work desk. A super king sized bed with a rather comfy mattress should ensure a good nights kip. The bedroom is also equipped with a large flat screen tv or you may well want to people watch from the windows.
The bathroom was very spacious and features a bathtub and a seperate walk in shower.

The hotels bar is tastefully decorated and welcoming and is a rather cosy place to indulge in drink or two!
Through from the bar is the hotel restaurant which doubles as the breakfast room. We opted to dinein the restaurant on our first night, the restaurant offers a rather good daily menu and an A la Carte menu. The food was lovely, though service needs a little tweaking here. The delay in delivering my rib eye steak was a little excessive though I was updated as to its status!

Breakfast is fantastic, buffet style, and something to suit all palates. The hot buffet offers sausage, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, etc etc and the food is hot and topped up regularly. (The sausages are supplied by a local butcher and they are probably the best sausages I've ever
had in a hotel). Good choice of cereals, juices, fruit etc for those who prefer something of a healthier breakfast.

Finally, I couldn't praise the staff enough. From the time we arrived until the time we departed the staff were lovely, nothing was a problem. Friendly, attentive and helpful, they are a credit to the hotel.
North East hospitality at its best!

P. S. The hotel also boasts a lovely indoor swimming pool, sadly we had no time to enjoy it, I hope you do!

Stayed for two nights here and would suggest you make sure you get a sea facing room. The beach is simply stunning. Sunny walk in January? Yup, it's possible people. Staff very efficient and room good. Did not eat here and the bar was a little empty but hey, it's January. Would not go anywhere else when staying in Sunderland.

This is a good hotel in a wonderful location, high quality room, excellent staff. HOWEVER only 2 teabags!!!! You may think this trivial but in a high class hotel this gives poor perception of value and also is really irritating to have to request more. Come on Marriott, don't be so cheap!

A good tip - if you want a good breakfast for less money, go to the Cafe Bungalow overlooking the sea (turn right out of hotel and follow the sea road, about 15 mins walk). Excellent breakfast for just over a fiver, friendly service and a brilliant sea view.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view - you really can't get closer to the sea!

We stayed while visiting family in the area and were not disapointed. We had a cornersuite - room 150 - for myself, my husband and two young children. The room was lovely with awesome views of the beach. Nice big bathroom too with jacuzzi bath. The kids slept on a comfy bed settee and we had a huge bed which was, for a hotel, really comfortable. Breakfast was lovely - everything you could want and the staff were very attentive and genuinely lovely. We will be staying again.

Room Tip: Room 150 - corner suite is lovely.
