Visited twice during December with groups of 8/9 people. All meals were excellent in quality and great value. Staff very good, choice very good. Hope the new brasserie area takes off. Good luck.

Second time I've been - we went for a big family meal just before Christmas. Food was very good: fairly simple menu, buy a fairly simple done well just like you get in Italy. I had a rather tasty prawn starter, tasty spicy meat pizza with a delicious thin crust, not too much cheese, plenty of meat. A very nice Montepulciano. Prices are very reasonable £15-20 with drinks. They very helpfully wrap up leftovers for later when you've got more room :)

The atmosphere is relaxed. Kids are very welcome. Staff are excellent and service splendid. I'm not a fan of the "distressed" decor, but everything else is glosses nicely over that.

Definitely worth a visit, and it'll likely be a regular haunt. Easier to get to than town, likely less packed, definitely better service. Didn't realise they did takeaways: handy but go to be waited on.

We live local, and this is our favourite restaurant in Sunderland. Food is top notch, prices are very reasonable, the atmosphere is always excellent. They have taken a section of the bar area now as a bistro, playing live jazz, wonderful new addition to ashbrooke, its a must visit if you've never been.

We(family of four) called in on the off chance of a spare table on a Sunday lunchtime and were immediately accommodated by a friendly waitress. We ordered drinks followed by starters and mains. Service was faultless, everything arrived in good time, not too long or too quickly, drinks were cold, food was hot with generous portions and good presentation. We shared a desert and the bill came to only £40. The place was full when we left and this just added to the atmosphere a bit more as it was quiet when we arrived. Definitely recommend it and already planning a trip back soon.

We first visited this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend who lives nearby. We knew the owner from visiting his previous restaurant in the city centre (Amalfi's - now closed unfotunately) and were welcomed like old friends! The restaurant has taken over half of The Ashbrooke (which has also recently had a refurb and is looking very smart) and has been decorated in traditional Italian style. Very warm and cosy, with plenty of tables. The food is fantastic, both the happy hour and specials menu. It does get extremely busy, you are very unlikely to get in without a booking during happy hour or Sunday lunch. Drinks are extremely reasonably priced, with draught beers being brought in from next door if wanted. I have never had a bad meal here (and I've visited a lot!) and would definitley recommend to anyone.
