Take the time and make the effort to do the one night Nam Nern Night Safari. Take a boat ride up river 14 kms to the camp in the protected area of the forest. Rustic bungalows with bath and showers await you. Never more than 8 guests. Do a short walk around the camp and learn about the history of the area from the people that used to live there the war and of course all about the plants and animals. At night you go further up river for dinner where it is just you and nature. Stay a few hours and then float back to the camp site spotting wildlfie along the way. I'm the morning you wake up to the birds and other forest sounds. After a large breakfast you float back down river to the jumping off point. Most people will skip this trip but it's well worth the effort to get there. You can reach the starting point from either Phonsavahn or Nong Khio by puic transit the day before you start and the guide will make sure you get back to either place at the end. Have done many similar trips around the world and this one is a must do.
