I spent two days at a conference at Rica Airport Hotel in April. The food at the hotel remarkable good both breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dinner was served in a special room dedicated for the conference participants, which was very nice, Breakfast and lunch were served in the restaurant which was quite crowded and a little bit noisy.

My room was comfortable, but as it was on the ground floor close to the parking space you could easily hear people starting or parking their cars just outside.

I must also add that there is a shuttle bus leaving frequently for the airport, but as there are many stops on this route, it takes about 20-25 minutes before you reach the airport and the price for a ticket is NOK 70 which means one has to add NOK 140 to the room price.

We ended up here due to our cruise being cancelled. As we didn't book it ourselves, the cruise company did, we were just glad that we had a place to sleep before catching our very early flight back home.

First impressions weren't great. Although classed as an airport hotel it was a 30 min bus journey there at a cost of Nkr70. The hotel is among a complex of other hotels surrounding a dual-carriage-sized round-about but even less salubrious than that was the petrol station that appeared to form part of the hotel's forecourt. But even worse, there was a drive-thru McDonald's right outside the hotel's entrance. Not pleasant to be reminded about the spread of that aspect of US 'culture' being 'the view'.

The hotel exterior had a council-estate-flats vibe about it and the interior wasn't much better. Also the bar was full of drunks and there was a footy match on the flat screen so it was a bit rowdy too.

We were among a group of other ex-cruise ship passengers who had been block-booked into this place. The receptionist was a bit panicky and terse but manfully tried to hide that behind a professional sheen that just about held together. We were all a bit tired and grumpy and so was our host it seemed. After some North European style ordering about we were finally allocated a billet – I mean room.

We felt it was ironic that the room should look like a ship's cabin. The room was very compact but had a separate toilet and shower room which made a nice change from the norm. It turned out that the two single beds were the lower beds of bunk beds. The two upper beds being stored flat up against the wall. Two single beds was good for us. But we had to lower the two upper beds to give ourselves enough clearance to toss and turn. We would've had rather bruised shoulders if we hadn't have done this. Worse than that was how creaky and squeaky the beds were. They made a right racket from the merest hint of a movement. We always take earplugs with us when we travel, mutual snoring issues, but they were no match for these machine-gun like sounds clattering throughout the night. If we hadn't have both been so dog-tired we wouldn't have slept a wink.

The alarm call we asked for was made on time and the breakfast was very good. It included a very wide ranging selection of chopped fruit which I enjoyed and the cereal mix was tasty as well. My partner complained to me that there was no hot food like bacon or scrambled eggs. What there was though was better quality that we were expecting and not the Travelodge plastic pestilence the place appeared to promise.

The wi-fi was free and had a strong connection.

The morning receptionist had a better attitude and we checked-out grateful for having had a place to sleep but not wanting to open our eyes again until we were back at Oslo airport.

We didn't pay but the cost would've been Nkr1400 which is around £162. Very pricey for what the place is. A box to sleep in before moving on.

Room Tip: Try to find a room that doesn't have squeaky beds.

Thank you for your review! We appreciate it, it is valuable for us and for future guests. First of all, the bus is an independent company, therefore it costs NOK 70,- per adult, children under 16 are free of charge. Rica Hotel Gardermoen is the first stop from the airport, the trip takes 10 minutes not 30.

I am sorry to hear that you ended up in one of our quadruplerooms with bunk beds, these are the last rooms to sell because of the bunk beds. But if you are a family staying for one night they are just fine. Rica Hotel Gardermoen have doublerooms with doublebeds, twinrooms, businessroms and singlerooms.

I am happy to hear that you liked our breakfast. In Rica hotels you get a good and healthy breakfast composed in collaboration with nutritionists from Olympiatoppen. Our breakfast starts from 04:00 if you are an earlybird.

I hope to see you again, you are most welcome back to Rica Hotel Gardermoen!

This is a nice hotel, but it is always full and there are many conferences there. The food in the restaurante is remarkable good, especialy the breakfast and the staff are friendly. Good busservice to the terminal where you can take the train ti Oslo.

Room Tip: Book a room not facing the airport.

This hotel is overpriced for the service you get. Yes, it has a decent restaurant and friendly staff, but that's not what really matters in an airport hotel.

What really matters is the sleep quality. And the sleep quality here is poor. The problem is in the floors. They're built using wood. The doors into your room is also showing signs of aging. Thus, whenever someone walks on the old wooden floor, you very clearly hear noises from the wooden floor. Additionally, some rooms are facing a parking lot with a gas station and a McDonalds which has a lot of traffic.

Thon Hotel Gardermoen is just down the road from this hotel and almost half the price. It's newer and will give you better sleep quality (however without the unnecessary bells and whistles of this hotel).

Bus ride from the airport which is 55NOK per person children under 16 free. Taxi 230NOK and about 10 minutes. When we arrived about 11pm the room was NOT ready as extra bed was not in it. Also we had reserved a triple room, the room we had was definately a double with an extra bed so a little on the small side. There was no air conditioning so we were cold.
The radissen is on Airport then Park Inn if you have an early flight

Hotel is located some km from the airport. Shuttle buses to/from the airport are available for NOK 80 one way.

Rooms and communal areas dating from 1999, but well kept and spotlessly clean. Smallish room, but desk was acceptable with plenty of power outlets.

Bathroom and bed both OK. Shower was waterproof and hat lots of water.

Nice breakfast, but Rica hotels are usually better.

Staff friendly and helpful, but at one point two staff members in the reception area had an argument that should have happened outside the guests' view.
