“Accommodating, comfortable, professional”
Reviewed February 7, 2014

We stayed here in August of 2013 (my review is a little old...oops!) the night before a flight. This place was amazing! We stayed here at the end of our holiday to Norway and just wanted a place that's close to the airport with comfortable beds. We have stayed at Radisson hotels before and have not had any complaints. This place was the best Radisson hotel we have stayed at. The beds were comfortable, the pizza was a great price (for Norway) and the breakfast buffet was delicious. The front desk employees were professional and accommodating. I asked for a late check-out so we didn't have to sit at the airport forever and they told me I could even check out at 6 pm if I wanted to, for no extra charge (not sure if that's normal there, but that was so nice!). I only needed it until 3 pm. We would definitely stay here again, hopefully we will be back in Norway :) tusen takk!!

Stayed here overnight as was catching a flight from Oslo in the early morning. Excellent rooms, hotel staff were superb and friendly and spoke very good English but the hotel restaurant was over priced even for Norway!

Stayed one night between two flights. The Hotel is only 200 meters from the terminal and should be your choice at Gardermoen due to many reasons:
- the hotel is relatively new
- staff is great. Friendly and helpful
- good breakfast

Why stay at Radisson Gardermoen when Park Inn is cheaper and better?

Et godt alternativ til overnatting i umiddelbar nærhet til Gardermoen. God service, fint rom og god frokost. Anbefales. A good option when it comes to a hotel close to Gardermoen airport. The service is good, the room is very nice, and the breakfast is also good. I'd recommend this hotel.

I stayed here on an overnight stopover either side of a trip to Svalbard.

On my previous stopover I had stayed at the Radisson Blu which, whilst perfectly acceptable, was lacking a bit and so I thought I would try the Park Inn on this occasion. These two hotels are located at either end of the airport building; come out and turn right for the Radisson, turn left for the Park Inn.

The Park Inn is reached via a covered walkway and is 2-3 minutes walk from the terminal itself.

Check-in was efficient and friendly. My Concierge level membership of Carlson Rezidor's loyalty scheme was acknowledged and I was upgraded to a business class room; in fact I'm fairly certain I had the same room on both stays which was very clever on their part if so, as the comments below will explain.

On the first stay, the room appeared to have been prepared for a family or not properly cleared after a previous family stay, as there were two additional beds in the room, both fully made-up and with clean towels on. Whilst the choice of three beds in which to sleep was generous, it meant that much of the floorspace was taken up and so there was little room to move around and it felt very cramped. I could have made an issue out of it and asked for a different room but it was late, I'd spent several hours travelling and at that point I just wanted to get my head down and sleep. Also, there were no toiletries in the bathroom - something I thought at the time was because of Park Inn being a value chain within the Carlson Rezidor brands portfolio.

When I checked out the following morning, I mentioned both of these to the front desk staff who were very apologetic and said they would raise it with housekeeping.

The relevance of the same room is that on my second stay, the room was immaculate. Without the additional beds, it showed off how spacious it was for a Scandinavian hotel room and also allowed me to use the desk, armchair and table & chairs that were in the room. There were also toiletries in the bathroom. I guess this proves that the issues with the room on the previous stay had been down to an oversight by housekeeping and this time around they had showed how it could and should be done.

The room itself was well equipped for a value chain, with basic climate control, work desk & chair, armchair, a large round table with separate chairs, safe, decent-sized flatscreen TV and adequate hanging space. The bathroom was very spacious and had a walk-in shower area, good additional lighting either side of the bathroom mirror and a shaving mirror. The towels were good quality and absorbent. The shower itself had strong water pressure and plenty of hot water on demand.

The work desk was a slightly odd shape - kind of like a cheese wedge - and perhaps more like a ledge but with the additional larger table this wasn't an issue. The bed was large and comfortable, certainly up to Carlson Rezidor's usual high standards when it comes to aiding a good night's sleep. On either side of the bed were plug sockets, bedside lamps and LED reading lights that were very useful and showed the attention to detail you expect in a business class hotel room - with almost everyone now having a mobile device, tablet etc., it is always very frustrating not to find plugs next to the bedside tables.

The climate control was efficient, if a bit quiet; that sounds counterintuitive but when I altered the temperature a couple of times, I couldn't hear the actual unit kick in. However, it did so after a while and seemed to be kicking in & out in the background, so was probably working on some form of thermostat in the room. It certainly made the room comfortable and warm when needed.

I ate dinner in the RBG restaurant on both stays and on both occasions the food was filling and tasty. It is expensive but that's Norway in general and not just this restaurant. A two course dinner with water and a drink was around £35. On both stays I had the burger that was excellent; meaty, well-seasoned and topped off with good extras such as red onion, relish and pickled gherkins. On the second stay I had the shared platter starter...for one (well I had just come back from the North Pole); the server said that it was quite a large portion but I had images of those 'sharing starters' you can get in the UK that would no way fill up the supposed 'for 2' that the menu says. This was completely different; it was a comprehensive selection of individual items - onion rings, mozzarella dippers, tempura prawns etc. - that were great and more than enough for me.

Service in the restaurant was friendly and prompt on both stays.

The highlight of the stay though has to be the customer service I received when I arrived for the second stay. I had had an accident whilst away and had little/no use of my left arm. Noticing my difficulty in getting through the revolving main door, the lady on the front desk immediately offered her assistance. After I had checked-in, she insisted on carrying all my luggage up to the room for me and putting the various bags down where I wanted them. She made a point of highlighting that the front desk was there if I needed any help during my stay.

From memory she was called Berit (if anyone from the hotel reads this, she was the blonde lady with glasses who was working a late on the afternoon on 30th December) and she was the absolute epitome of the customer service excellence - thank you.

Customer service was what I felt was a bit lacking at the Radisson; as per my earlier review on here, it felt too much like a hotel with a captive market where the staff didn't have to try too hard and, as a consequence, the overall guest experience was a bit flat. Here at the Park Inn though, the customer service was more enthusiastic, personal and engaging. This was part of the overall positive surprise, as Park Inn sits below Radisson Blu in the brand hierarchy but the customer service at this Park Inn I thought was better.

The difference between the cost of the two hotels at the time of booking was less than NOK100/£10 a night and looking at both websites as I write this review, this level of differential is relatively constant for similar grades of room. This creates an interesting potential dilemma for Carlson Rezidor as there is no clear water between the two brands at the same location and they risk cannibalising each other's markets (although of course the group is still the beneficiary as the guest is still staying in one of their brands either way).

The only significant differences I can identity in the respective propositions are a Nespresso machine and better quality toiletries in a business class Radisson room. How much of a premium do you place on these?

Having stayed at both, I would suggest that both provide a very good overall guest experience but my default choice for a future stay would be the Park Inn because of the more attentive customer service. I was expecting the Park Inn to be OK but it turned out to be much better than this - it was a great surprise find.

Recently spent 24 hours waiting for our connecting flights and really enjoyed this hotel. So handy to the airport, modern and efficient with nice rooms and a good restaurant. Reception staff courteous. Rooms clean and quite spacious. Our room was at the front and had a lounge set in a window box return which was handy. The fact that it snowed quite heavily while we were there may have coloured our assessment. The airport was turned into a winter wonderland in a few hours with the snow. Breakfast very good and evening meal equally so with an attentive and professional wait staff.Would certainly stay at this hotel again.
